Studying photos of the Land Rover CAV 100 in Iraq and Afghanistan, I notice a large raised section, directly in front of the roof hatch. One of the photos shows the soldier resting his elbow on this while aiming his SA80. Am I correct in assuming this is its main function … it appears to be covered in a soft vinyl-type material, rather like a cushion.

Having just found other photos of the CAV 100, I think I've found the answer to my earlier question … the raised panel appears to be the hatch cover, which slides forward from the opening.

I was wondering too, how this system works when I had to built the Blackdog conversion. I have found after seeing pics of opened and closed cover. Strange system.
