It looks like their gaiters have an under/heel (stirrup) strap. I just Googled their uniforms and didn't see anything similar. Are these figures correct?

The Germans were issued with boots for use in the desert with a composite canvas and leather composition and I think the sculptor or at least the painter is portraying these; I recall they started life as long versions but were cut down; it may also be that a shorter boot was subsequently issued (I'm no WW2 German expert).

What is nice to see are the voluminous trousers; no shrink to fit Levis back then!

Helmet shape looks a little strange to me. Too tall maybe.

Yes, I know AC were issued low boots with gaiters, but they were similar to late-war German gaiters. These ones have a downwards point which seems to indicate a stirrup strap which I haven't noticed in pics.

As I say I'm no German expert but I was unaware that Afrika Korps were ever issued with the "European" pattern boots and gaiters combo; however, I believe the sculptor and the painter (who may even be one and the same) are trying to portray this type:

or a derivative from it. If they're a bit awry with the colours then that will create the illusion of a under-boot secured gaiter I think you're seeing.
