This is my current project, been working on this on an off for 2 years now. its a real labour of love as this build is of my own wagon that I worked on during my time in the Army. I spent 12 years in the Royal Signals and worked on various 436's in my time but they say you always remember your first!! Bit of a big conversion and lots of scratch building and pushing the boundaries with new techniques.

My 436, or the first one I crewed- 09EA90 on the far left with myself and my crewman Steve B. This photo was taken in south Germany back in 1991.

I'll move on further in to build as the drivers compartmant is same on all the 43 series.

Modified back bin, we had an armoured back bin on the left hand side for the Ptarmiagan kit, it housed remote terminals.

Additional boxes added to the roof, these were for coax outlet, remotes and antenna bases. different from a 432.

The Takom 432 is now discontinued which is a shame, they still have the bulldog but that does not have the interior. Hopefully they will re release the 432 soon as it’s a great kit. Good to hear from you Frank, once all this C19 stuff is sorted then we will have to have to have a meet up mate.

The 43 is looking great Dan, the sets and harness will give it a real WOW factor as well...did you say it's part of a planned Dio ... Hope your putting cam nets up !!

Ref your lazy tech pic .... I thought that was the usual work position for all scaley backs lol .... Only kidding mate... I know it was sat at a desk decoding BATCO or changing the brick lol..... Those were the days !!

The pic of the BVs reminds me when one boiled dry with a can of processed peas in it which then exploded all over the inside of my Chieftain turret .. we were not happy lol....

Normal position for us operators was sat in the commanders compartment whilst the staff were in residence mate, drop the drivers seat back down and it was tight but comfy. The Radios were right next to you in that position so we could monitor the nets .We had a curtain that pulled across so we were not seen by the watchkeepers. When the staff were not about then we sat in back. The lazy tech photo was taken just before the command staff arrived but it was very much the position for the tech trades on exercise.
Most important bit of kit on the det was the BV’s, excellent bit of kit.

Not sure on how to display this one yet but I’ll come up with something over the course of the build.

Hi Dan,

Well done on the conversion, I have a stalled 432 CV conversion. Can you remember if they left the original seats on the right hand side behind the map boards? I know that the 436 didn’t have them. When they converted to Bowman they switched sides and had the new desk on the left side.

The 432 Forum has lots of information and owners of vehicles who always need a bit of help.

As for the 432 CV conversion I think they had the seats on the right hand side, didn’t have much exposure to the 432 CV conversion TBH, they were not that common in my circles. I know there were two in Vitez Bosnia when I was there in 1995 belonging to the Devon and Dorset’s. Only the penthouse fitting kit gave it away that it was the CV version from the outside.

Managed some bench time tonight and made a start on the heat guard
over the exhaust. this is to protect the Ptarmigan 7 Quad cables after a move. Not quite finished yet.

One fist from the top of the track to the underside of the sponson mid point between the return rollers

They are only on temporary, they will be the last things to go after painting, I’ve modified the rear idler to adjust just like the real deal, to get the slack right.
