I noted that some VBCI used with Operation Serval in Mali in 2013 had large stowage packs hung from their sides. Can anybody point me a direction to these packs(designation, size).

This is the standard bag for the personnel gear. I'll check in the vehicle manual if there are more information about this.

I didn't found any information about the size and dimensions of the bag. The French denomination is porte-sacs latéral which can translate in side backpacks/rucksacks carrier.
