Hello. I'm trying to determine if the Panther battalion of 12th SS used the A early or mid during the Normandy Campaign. I know they used the A, just not if that include early or mid production As. If anyone knows, or can point me to a source that would be appreciated.

Cheers and thanks,
Chris

My starting point for Panther issuance is always Martin Block’s tables at http://www.panther1944.de/index.php/en/sdkfz-171-pzkpfwg-panther/truppenteile/panther-zuweisungslisten/panther-zuweisungsliste-1944

Armed with the allocation dates, it is possible to make an educated guess as to when each batch allocated to a particular unit would have been built. You can then use a combination of photographs and the production changes data (in Jentz & Doyle and/or McDougall & Block) to determine what features they probably had.

As with anything related to Panther versions and its modifications, I'll share this link with you, which has a very good overview of all the changes over time:

http://panther1944.de/index.php/en/sdkfz-171-pzkpfwg-panther/technik/technical-changes

Maybe it helps!
