I'm building "King Kong", the USMC M4A2 Sherman shown in a famous pic from the Marianas campaign in June-July 1944. The only photo I can find of Kong is one taken from the rear of the tank looking forward (with marines crouched behind the tank).

I'm looking for any photos of the front and sides of the tank (I have the tank encyclopedia and other site's drawings of the sides) but can't find a photo of the front. I've seen previous models showing plywood on the front glacis of Kong but no photos to support that. The only "reference" I can find showing plywood on the front is from a decal sheet...which may or may not be accurate.

Can anyone assist with a front PHOTO of "Kong"?

Thanks!

Steve

This is based on a photo that I failed to save in my archives. I used sheet and strip styrene.

Here's "Jungle Jim". You can see how they used lumber to space out the plywood.

Thanks. I appreciate the response and your photos but I'm still looking for a photo of the front glacis of Kong. If you happen to find that actual pic please send it to me.

I've also seen the numerous pics of army and marine Shermans in the Pacific AOR with improvised armor (wood, PSP, concrete, sandbags, etc.) but that one pic (of King Kong) still eludes me!

Hello Steve !
The picture you are talking about has been taken at Saipan
this two following pictures are from "after" (I suppose), I don't know where...

this last one is given (for me) to be the hiden side of the King Kong, in Saipan, but it's maybe a "fake new"

But as I have the habbit to say, do what you want, and if someone tells you something, ask him he shows you the proof of true
