Could someone point me in the right direction for a photographic walkaround of a T-72, preferably an Iraqi one without the add-on Armour?

Well... there is a rather poor East German example on Tom's Armour site:

It's in pretty bad shape though. I love the wimpy hinges on the side skirts.

The best one around is the Concord Publications book T-72 Soviet Main Battle Tank by Steve Zaloga. (#1004) Pre-Gulf War, published in 1989. If you're near Ft. Knox, Ft. Hood or Aberdeen Proving Ground, they have some of the war booty ones there.
