This is my experiment in painting SS camouflage smocks troops in 1/87. Abase coat, then using a springy toothbrush to flick the various colors on. Three colors so far. More work to do. So far looking more like USMC P42 "Frogskins," but hopefully, without magnification, it will look just right.

You could also use small pieces of sponge - a different piece for different colors. Dip the sponge in paint and lightly press-apply. With a bit of practice you can get very small dots. You can even repeat patterns.
