Operational Overview The goal is to build those big guns of the artillery that are used when you mean business. At times when a regular battery of artillery just wouldn’t get the job done the big boys were brought in. Used for offense, defense, siege breaking, or just guarding your own back yard these big guns meant business.
Some were self propelled, others needed special transport, and others just sat by and waited to pulverize those who crept into range. Those are the focus of this build, the big guns, 200mm and above, of the artillery corps.
The went by names like, The Great Turkish Bombard ,Big Bertha, Dora, Karl, Leopold, The Paris Gun, Al-Fao, and many others. They have been around from 1450 until today.
The Rules and Regs ERA: As stated above, this exciting endeavor will encompass ALL of history. So, ANY timeframe is acceptable.
SCALE: Any scale is acceptable since readily available 'non-modern' artillery in 1/35th scale is difficult to find. And for the 'thinkers' out there, this also opens up a plethora of possibilities!
SETTING: Any setting is also acceptable, whether it is a full-fledged diorama such as a siege breaking battery, or a single Costal Defense gun. But remember the main focus is the make a “Big Gun” 200mm or larger.
AM/OOB FACTOR: Any level of involvement will be satisfactory. So, if you just want to build your entry Out Of the Box, great. However, you may add as much AM to your build as you see fit.
IN-PROGRESS: All participants are HIGHLY encouraged to post 'in-progress' photographs of their work as the build advances ahead. And since this build is designed first and foremost as a sharing experience. Adding how-to pictures is especially appreciated by all involved.
COMPLETION: Upon the arrival of the 'Finish' date, a photographic submission of your completed artillery project will qualify as official completion of the build. I gave it an extra month for those who want to build the monsters of this campaign.
AWARDS: As stated below, ALL participants successfully completing the build will receive a 'Ribbon'. Contest Element This will be a long drawn out build for some and a quick one for others, but the main goal is to have a good time. Ribbons will be awarded for all of those who take part. |
