Modern US Army Tankers

by: Pete Becerra [ EPI ]

introduction
I first noticed this set on Walthers web site (www.walthers.com). I’ve been waiting for its release ever since. The figures are nicely molded and the price is very good. I bought two 16 figure sets from my local hobby shop for $8.99 per set.
inside the box
The set contains 16 figures in a variety of poses such as standing, walking, driving, ground guiding and several poses appropriate for a crewman in a vehicle hatch. For the scale, the detail is impressive. Half the figures are wearing the US Army Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) and the rest are wearing the Combat Vehicle Crewman (CVC) uniform, commonly referred to as Nomex. The vast majority of US AFV crewmen wear Nomex while operating their vehicles. This is an important figure set for modern US armor modelers wanting to add crewmen to their models. Why can't a company like Dragon produce a set like this in 1/35th plastic?

The figures come with separate heads. Some heads have BDU caps, Kevlar helmets, CVC helmets (aka tanker helmets) or just bare headed. Several figures are wearing the modern replacement for the field jacket called the Gore-Tex jacket. Also included is a figure carrying a five gallon can and two crewmen carrying a 120mm sabot round.
conclusion
I recommend this set for anyone building 1/72 Dragon or Revell Bradleys, Abrams, AAV7A1, or any other modern US AFV. With the upcoming Braille Scale campaign, these figures would add some life to a completed model.

SUMMARY
Leave it to a model railroading manufacturer to accomodate modern US armor builders! With Dragon and Revell releasing Bradleys, Abrams and Amtracs, a nice set of 1/72 figures in injection plastic was not available till now.
