This release from Italeri is not really a part of our genre of the hobby however due to it being a 1/35th scale kit I felt this boat kit from Italeri should be covered here. Take a look inside to see why Italeri is all at sea and what possibilities this may present those of you interested in dioramas.
Italerihas continued to release large 1/35th scale boats and this time its British, the MBT Vosper 73’6”, that means this model is a whopping 63,1 cm long. Here is what Italeri have to say about this impressive model.

The Vosper company became famous, during the Second World War, for the production of small and fast Motor Torpedo Boats (MTB) and Motor Gun Boats (MGB) for the Royal Navy. Among the various boats in production, the Vosper MTB 72’6” were characterized by a significant life cycle with different mission profiles as the coastal patrol and the anti-submarine support in the North Sea and English Channel. Power from 3 engines with an impressive power of 4,200 hp, Vosper MTB was able to reach a speed close to 40 knots (70 km/h). The first versions were introduced at the beginning of the war but were gradually replaced with new variants, type I and type II, which were characterized by a different combination of offensive and defensive weaponry. They were usually armed with 457 mm torpedo tubes, depth charges, and 0.303” Vickers machine guns or, more rarely, from 0.5” Vickers machine guns , for air defense. The crew consisted of 10 to 13 men

Al (Bowie) Could you measure the kit Vickers .50s? According to the NavWeapons site the gun length was about 35 inches which would equate to about 1 inch(?) in 1/35 scale. Tom

Hi Tom, mine hasn't arrrived yet but I'm sure the other Al could measure it. When i look at the pictures it just looks a bit on the small side for a vickers 50 particularly in the dia of the cooling jacket, barrel and the reciever. Regardless this is a very welcome release. I have the scale plans in the Coastal Forces book and a few other references so will check when mine arrives after Christmas (I picked surface mail as I'm working over the break and can wait - just) Cheers Al

Hi Tom, I'll measure it when I get home this evening, if no one else drops the info in first. Al

Thanks Alan, I've been looking at the sprue shots on your post over on MSW. Maybe the cooling jacket looks a little thin. Looking at pics of the weapon on NavWeps site... One looks thick (second pic, quad DD mount) but another looks thin (cropped first pic) Positively a head scratching moment. Tom

Hi ton, Here's a picture of the .5 inch turret I have another picture but not on line of Sailors carrying the guns and size wise the kit ones look reasonably OK. Al

Interesting comparison between the Vickers' and Browning weapons. The Vickers must be about half as long. I'm still debating where to put one (If I did this kit I'd HAVE to get the S-Boat for a comparison), and I've only got one not-so-cute child for sale Tom

. There are a couple of terrific builds of the S Boat on Shipwrights, but it's not one I'm drawn towards. Al
