Rob Ervin of Formations has added three new items, one of which is a direct vision M4 hull, to his range.
The new items are:
F093 Riveted M4/M4A1 Lower Sherman Hull

This is the early riveted lower hull used on M4s and M4A1s. It includes separate bogie plates so that it can be used with virtually any 1/35th scale Sherman suspension including the M3 Lee Style Suspension. Price $23

F094 M4 Direct Vision Sherman Hull

This hull can be used with many donor kits or our lower hull and turret sets. Includes the normal array of Formations detail parts and positionable direct vision doors. Price $28

F095 Fuel Funnels (2 styles)

These large funnels were often seen stowed on the back of Commonwealth tanks in the North African Desert. Price$5

The recent Sherman releases by DML and Tasca have made some Sherman Variants and parts, which until now were only available in resin, now available in plastic - for instance the Welded hood M4A2. Rob is deleting some of these items from his range.
However the diversity of Sherman production means that there will be a niche in the market for Formations for a long time to come

For those that use it comes welcome news that Formations now accept Paypal for payment of orders.

Thanks for posting that Pat - I had the images downloaded but you beat me to it That DV hull is DEFINITELY going to sell by the truckload. I'm not so sure about the bolted lower hull as Tasca has included one in their new M4a1 although it's a damned useful release as well. The DV Hull though...

That DV hull looks great, and really fills a gap in the Sherman line. $28 is pretty reasonable also. I've a question though? I've never seen a larger resin piece like this in real life. Does it come needing a lot of clean up, or is it pretty much like you see in the picture? For example is the opening for the turret open like this, or do you need to drill it out?

The M4 dv hull is great. It's a Baldwin production model if i'm not mistaken. (See also the Paris Sherman in Osprey modelling "Modelling the US M4 (75mm) Sherman medium tank". ) Baldwin used the dv hull for it's entire M4 75mm production, they did add applique armor during production. This really is the last piece of the puzzle of correcting the Tamiya M4 kit. Happy, happy, joy, joy...

Hi Pat, Thanks for the head up on this one, another for the list. Rodger, I used their M4A1 DV hull, it was excellent, no more clean up than anything else, parts all fitted well and it was easy to work with. Cheers Al

Here's a reply from Rob Ervin himself: "The castings are do require some clean up. There are some runners inside the turret ring opening and rear deck to allow resin to flow through the mold in these areas, they are pretty simple to remove but require some care. Also there is material to remove from the hull hatches that is about .015 to .020 thick. The small parts are also attached to sprues in a maner a bit heavier than a plastic kit. They certainly require a bit more time to remove from the sprues than plastic parts."

Hi Pat, Do you kow if it will fit the Italeri M4 Lowevr hull? I picked up a cheap one from Hannants today and thought I'd use that as I've seen an early M4 Command Tank I might do. Cheers Al

I would think so Alan though you'll need an early transmission cover. How cheap did you get the Italeri M4A1? I bought one recently as it's still one of my favourite kits and plan to use all the spare bits and pieces I have on it.

Hi Pat, Thanks. I have some spare Dragon and Tamiya transmissions so should be OK there. It was £7.99p from their second hand kit stall, couldn't resist. The Academy M7 also sort of fell into my hands along with the Osprey book on the Flail . The shops just within stricking distance of where I'm working now. I don't know if that is a good or bad thing lol, lol. Cheers Al
