box

The figure comes in 125 x 85 x 30 mm.standard Pegaso Models Elite Series blue cardboard box. The front cover shows a photo of the figure painted by Pietro Balloni from 3 different angles front, back and right side close up.

Inside the box, there is 2 paper sheets including a short historical info about Gold Rush in U.S.A and painting tips for this figure. This document is prepared by Marco Guillani and presented in 4 languages; English, Italian, French and German.

Parts are well protected between two slabs of thick gray polyfoam and small parts are secured in a punched plastic bag.

parts

The figure is sculpted by Gianni La Rocca and made up of 13 white metal parts. All parts are cast clean and crisp with very good details. No serious cleaning, sanding or filling is required. As I checked under magnifier, I only noticed a slightly visible vertical seamline on the inner side of left leg. As I mentioned in most reviews, I repeat brushing your figure gently with a wire brush and washing with soap or mild detergent makes the details more apparent and priming makes paint adhere much better.

The main part is torso with legs. He wears a buckskin jacket over his flannel shirt. The jacket is decorated with ornamental fringes on front and back. Cloth folds, buttons of shirt and jacket are well defined. The boxart shows the artist added Indian style beadwork or embroidery in ethnic patterns next to the fringes. He wears blue jean and Mexican Style leather leggings - Vaquero chapes with six laces at the rear to fasten it. Border trimming with metal studs, laces and belt buckle details are well defined. There is a small cavity on the right thigh for the holster.

  • Head : The head is molded with bandana (handkerchief) around neck and fits good to the cavity on torso. Moustache and beard details, wrinkles on forehead and folds on foulard are well defined. He shows a cantankerous expression even unpainted.

  • Sombrero hat : He wears a big sombrero hat made from felt with a sash. The sash can be painted in Indian ethnic patterns as in the jacket. There is small receiving hole on the left side for the feather.

  • Feather : It looks like an eagle feather and has crisp details.

  • Arms : Both arms are posed holding the rifle and fit good to the shoulder holes. They are cast with ornamental fringes from shoulders to sleeves. Fringes and folds on buckskin jacket are well defined. Sleeves are carved to assembly the arms easier.

  • Rifle : He holds a flintlock rifle, an old rifle with trampet shaped muzzle. The butt and stock is made of wood with gilded brass fittings. The hands are molded on the rifle and fits good to the holes on the sleeves. Please check here for some flintlock rifles.

  • Holster : It fits good to the cavity on the right thigh. He carries a revolver, probably Colt Frontier Model 1878 with a wood or pearl butt in natural leather holster.

  • Pipe : A small pipe with a simple stem. I advice you to keep it well during your built because it is so tiny and can be victimized to carpet monster.

  • Pickaxe : It was an indispensable equipment to search for gold nuggets. Wooden handle and metal part are well defined.

  • Sifter : Round shaped sifter with a handle is another indispensable equipment for gold diggers. Please see photo 1 and photo 2 for gold diggers with sifters.

  • Sack : The folds on sack and knotted robe is well defined. Two holes at the bottom fit good to the moulds on figure base. It can be painted as a canvas or hemp sack.

  • Figure base : It shows a good ground texture with small rocks and flat stones. There are 2 moulds on it to make the assembly of gold sack easier. The sculptor, Gianni La Rocca shows us more of his amazing skills in this kit adding Pegaso Models logo and his signature under the figure base.

    conclusion

Interesting subject with a colorful clothing, good posing and nice facial expression, high quality casting, ease on clean and assembly, historical and painting reference in 4 languages and a nice figure base with accessories. This is another masterpiece from Pegaso.
    Very Highly Recommended

Thanks to Luca Marchetti of Pegaso Models for the review sample.
