Introduction

Preceding the release of a new set of German WW1 Infantry, ICM have given us yet another excellent looking set of WW1 weapons and equipment for the period.

The Set

The set comes in a nice hard cardboard box with a colour picture of the items for reference and the product information and makers logo on the top. Inside are two buff coloured sprues containing the parts. There are a total of 38 items on each sprue, 76 in all. The parts are excellently and cleanly produced and contain a high level of detail.

The instruction sheet comes with a complete listing of the contents and a suggested paint guide and all looks very straight forward there. So let’s have a look at what you get:

  • MG08/15 machine gun x 2
  • Tankgewwhr M1918 anti tank gun x 2
  • Mauser 98a carbine x 4
  • Mauser 98 rifle x 4
  • Mauser 98 rifle with M98/05 bayonet x 4
  • M98 bayonet x 4

  • Luger P08 pistol holster x 2
  • Mauser C96 pistol x 2
  • Mauser C96 pistol with butt holster
  • Mauser C96 pistol butt holster
  • Stiehandgranate grenade x 8
  • Kugelhandgranate grenade x 4
  • Assault knife x 4
  • Shovel x 4
  • Pickaxe x 2
  • Pickaxe in case x 2
  • Small shovel x 2
  • Small shovel in case with M98/05 bayonet x 4
  • Wire cutters x 2

  • Binoculars case x 2
  • Binoculars x 2
  • Flashlight x 2M1916 steel helmet x 8
  • Respirator canister and filter x 4

I can’t fault any of the items there is an excellent range of pistols, rifles and MGs to give you a wide range of finish figure options and lots of spares for diorama accessories.

Conclusion

What a great selection for modellers. Quality is excellent. I would like to have seen a set of pike helmets included although these will be present in the new German Infantry set, a few more for conversions would have been good.

There are many excellent items in this set I particularly like the MG08/15 and the Mauser M98 rifle with M98/05 bayonet plus of course the excellent Luger and Mauser pistols.

Another cracking set from ICM.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

The stocked Luger and Mauser pistols and the Mp18 and wire cutters should be especially nice for use with the ICM storm troop figures. Or the Geweher 98s for use in converting the storm troops to line Infantry figures. I converted a Mp35 Bergman from an old Tamiya weapons set before I knew of this weapons set. The 100 anniversary of WWI (or WKI) is just a month or so away. It is good to see this renewed interest in WWI modelling subjects.

I picked both the British and German sets up cheap off ebay this week on the strength of Als review and I've got to say I'm really impressed with them. I initially wanted the British set for the SMLE with grenade launcher cup to go in the back of an LRDG chevy I'd stalled on a couple of years ago (I've had a look at it and my interst is rekindled) and some Mills bombs as nobody seems to do them and I needed some for my WW2 British infantry. Going on the quality of these I could easily be tempted to build a First World war dio. The Mauser C96's in this set are superb and put the Dragon ones to shame which until now were the only ones available in plastic from their old German Infantry Weapons Set 1. They were very anorexic looking and the barrels usually snapped when cutting them off the sprue unfortunately. Not only are these more substantial as they should be. the detail is great. I particularly like the one with the holster come stock fitted. The same with the artillery Luger. One thing that I missed on the box was the Luger comes with a snail drum magazine as well! Whoever put this set together really did their homework as the weapons not only cover all the main types used by each army, are really well moulded and there's plenty of them. As Al said this is a great set and well worth picking up even if just for the WW1 to WW2 crossover weapons.
