BMD workable tracks

by: Olivier Carneau [ BISON126 ]

Introduction

This set of resin tracks comes from Lion Marc Models a manufacturer related to Armour Workshop and is designed for the Zvezda BMD kit series.

The set consists of 200 resin links and 200 brass rods, which is enough for the BMD's. However, I have no idea whether it is sufficient for the longer variants like the BTR-D.

The set comes in a small cardboard box decorated with pictures of a model fitted with the tracks. The links and the rods are issued in two plastic Ziploc bags wrapped in bubblewrap to prevent any damage.

The casting is nice and unlike Friul tracks there is no need to drill and check the links. The holes for the rods are perfectly cast. The particular shape of the guide horn is very well rendered too.

A dry fitting shows that it is necessary to sand the link edges to ensure the tracks are really workable.

The rods slip easily into their places, and the assembly does not become tedious as they come pre-cut at the correct length. You will however need to be cautious to avoid breaking the interlocking part of the links.

The fit around the Zvezda sprockets is very neat, as shown on the pictures, but I can't tell if this is true with the Skif kit.

in conclusion

I would recommend this set to everybody eager to build the Zvezda BMD kits. These resin tracks are miles ahead of the poor kit-supplied vinyl tracks. This will result in increasing by far the realism of the kit, but unfortunately this does mean effectively doubling the price of the finished model!
SUMMARY
This resin tracks set is a must and will replace the poor kit vinyl tracks.
