kit content

The kit includes 10 heads with two types of gas masks.

  • 8 heads with M17 Field Protective Mask are given in two different neck positions. 4 heads in forward pose and 4 heads in neutral pose.
M17 is designed to give protection against respiratory war gases, germ-warfare agents, and airborne radioactive fallout particles. It was developed by the Army Chemical Corps, first issued in 1959 as an improvement on M9 Gas Mask from the previous decade. M17 had a singular new feature: the elimination of the need for a canister by placing lightweight filter material in pockets in the cheek of the mask. The protection is provided by the pads of filter material enclosed within cavities molded into the rubber facepiece of the mask. The mask was originally made in three sizes and included a voice transmitter to improve speech transmission. A drinking tube that mates with the M1 canteen cap and a resuscitation tube were added to M17A1.

  • 2 heads with XM28 Grasshopper Riot Control Gas mask
Soldiers in the field needed protection against the riot-control agents in use and desired a lightweight, easily carried protective mask. This requirement led to the development of the XM27and the XM28-series masks. Each used a high-efficiency particulate air filter to remove the riot-control agents but provided no protection at all against military-standard chemical agents. XM28 with a 390 grams weight, was created as a defense against RCAs (Riot Control Agents) such a Tear Gas, as specified on its carrier bag. The mask was used when American troops like Tunnel Rats used Tear Gas to clear out caves and tunnels systems, operated by the Viet cong. Mask is molded of matte silicon, and used perspex lenses that are glued onto the mask. The mask fits on the head with a 6-point head harness. The exhale valve is located behind the chin. The mask’s shape allows it to be folded and placed in a small carrier bag which can be carried on a belt or on the soldier’s STABO harness. The mask had plastic strips on the inside to prevent its shape from being lost. Putting the mask into the carrier bag was frustrating to do as it is nearly impossible to properly fit it in.
    conclusion

Hair and all mask details like facepiece, voicemitter, valves, eyelens/outserts, head harness consisting of head pad, forehead straps, temple straps and cheek straps, clip and buckle assemblies are very well defined. It can be used to convert BRAVO-6 figures to Tunnel Rats and also can be used for figures of some other companies.
