Introduction

MacOne models is specialized in resin products, making several interesting accessories for dioramas. One of their latest additions are bases for models.
They represent asphalt pavements and there are two sizes available.
The bases are made of grey resin and are available in two sizes. The small one is 20x9,5cm while the large one is 27,5x16cm. The latter is slightly thicker, 4mm against 3mm for the small.
They both have a drain on a side and a manhole, and the asphalt is depicted as a quite old one. It is full of cracks and marks
Review

The casting is excellent, with an amazing level of detail. The cracks are absolutely realistic , both in shape and random distribution. The manhole is also crisply done.
The finish of the resin is completely matt, which helps having also a matt finish once painted. Additionally, the pigments stick perfectly to it.
In use

The bases come ready to use, with no parts to assemble. Following the recommendation of the seller, they were washed and primed before painting.
I used two different methods for painting them. The big one was airbrushed with dark grey and then with a lighter grey and light yellow in more or less random places. The small one was painted with a brush and the lighter colours were added while the paint was still wet.
The rest of the weathering process was similar for both, with different washes of oils and pigments applied without fixer.
The texture on the bases made the process quite easy, with the washes flowing along the cracks and pigments sticking to the surface. It took me approximately one hour of work to have them ready, without counting the drying time between layers or products.
Considering I am no expert in dioramas and this is the first time I paint an asphalt base, I am very happy with the result. I am sure that any experienced modeller will get a much better finish than me so better trust the before-painting photos!
Conclusion

This is an excellent product, with a high level of detail and requiring only paint to have a base ready for any vehicle and/or figures. Just attach them to a wood base and the models will look much better with very little time and effort.
NOTE: for some reason the base looks warped or elongated in a couple of photos. It is a problem with my background below the product, which is soft fabric. The bases are plain and their edges perfectly straight.

SUMMARY
Highs: Nice texture. Easy to get decent results with minimal work.
Lows: None
Verdict: Very useful and easy to paint base.

About Carlos Martin (varanusk)
FROM: SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, SPAIN / ESPAñA

My main interest is German vehicles and guns, and I like spending time researching the vehicle and the options for the camo once I have chosen a subject. Sometimes I go for specific and rare vehicles, of which only two or three photos are known so it takes me a lot of time to figure how everything w...
