Introduction

Legend Productions has really got into the 3D mastering of products and then releasing them in cast resin. The result of this is a number of products aimed at the figure modeller that are very accurate, but with this process also being used to release figures we get very fluid movement being replicated in the results. The subject of this review is a 1/16th scale resin figure of a US NAVY SEAL SCAR Mk 20 Sniper depicted throwing a smoke grenade.

Review

This offering from Legend Productions is packed in a flip top cardboard box and wrapped in a sealed plastic bag that should protect the contents from all reasonable handling by postal services. Inside of this packaging is one of Legend Productions usual card boxes containing the smaller parts of the model secured inside a Ziploc bag. There is also a tube of bubble wrap containing the larger parts of the model and lastly a single paper sheet as a guide to assembly.

The casting quality of the various components is very good in all respects, I only managed to find a single air bubble on one of the fingers of the left hand and that is very small. I looked very hard for other moulding issues and I did not find any in the sample. I will say I found some of the areas where the resin channels on the larger parts are in locations that are difficult to tackle, but we have to consider what it is we want from a product. Do we want to have to take time to remove parts and clean up or do we prefer tackling poor moulding issues instead? For me I would rather tackle the removal side of the argument.

For this review I have removed the main parts that make up the body from their pour plugs and cleaned them ready for use, I will admit that some further minor clean up is still required before final assembly takes place. Removal and clean up was tackled with five tools that should be in the tool box of all modellers. These tools are cutters, razor saw, scalpel, sanding sticks and needle files, using some or all of these tools on the various parts should get you to the finish level you need to assemble the parts. I cannot over emphasize that the time and care taken during removal and clean up of the parts of this model and for that matter any model will to a large extent dictate the ease or difficulty you will encounter as you progress.

Looking at the parts I have removed and for that matter some I have not I am pleased to see that effort put in by Legend Productions to make locating the parts in the right place and correct orientation via the use of connectors. These connectors are a mix of square connectors that insure the part is correctly located on the model to simple nipple locators that makes locating parts easier.

Construction of the larger parts was straight forward with only the joint of the right arm giving me any struggles; this can be seen in the photographs where a joint is clearly visible and will need a small amount of filler to correct, this is also true of the rear part of the left arm. The waist is not a tight fit and looks bad in the images, but this would seem to be intended by Legend Productions and once all of the equipment is added this aspect will be hidden from view and will also allow some nice undercut detail.

Conclusion

While I have only assembled the bare bones of this figure it has presence due to the dynamic pose. The connectors are a great touch and makes assembly easier than it might otherwise have been. The hands having been moulded separately from the arms and holding the rifle and smoke grenade mean you get a positive grip of both elements. The uniform detail and armour look good to me, but I am not even going to try and quote on their accuracy due to it being quite specialist subject. This is a stunning addition to the range of 1/16th scale figures from Legend Productions.
SUMMARY
Highs: The dynamic pose of this figure make it really shine in my eyes.
Lows: Clean up of parts can be difficult in areas such as the interior of the helmet.
Verdict: For the demanding figure enthusiast this is a great release.
