The Ops-Core Fast Ballistic Maritime Helmet
The Ops-Core Fast Ballistic Maritime Helmet was originally designed for a specific Special Operations unit, the Ops-Core FAST Maritime Ballistic Helmet is a smaller, lighter version of their legendary FAST High Cut Helmet. The FAST Maritime has higher side cut-outs for integration with communication headsets. The shell is constructed of carbon UHMWPE which equates to a 20% weight reduction. As anyone who has ever worn a combat helmet for long periods of time knows, this is a huge benefit. Every ounce matters, especially when you are running NVG’s cantilevered off your head.
L-3 Warrior Systems, the night vision division of L-3, has developed and fielded one of the biggest innovations in night vision technology with the Ground Panoramic Night Vision Goggle (GPNVG-18). The purpose of the GPNVG-18 is to provide the operator more information under goggles, allowing him to more quickly move through the OODA Loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act). The most striking feature of the GPNVG-18 is the presence of four separate image intensifier tubes with four separate objective lenses arrayed in a panoramic orientation. The center two lenses points forward like traditional dual-tube goggles, giving the operator more depth perception, while two more tubes point slightly outward from the center to increase peripheral view. The two tubes on the right and the two on the left are spliced at the eyepieces. The operator sees the two center tubes somewhat overlapping the two outer tubes to produce an unprecedented 97° FOV. This is an absolute game-changer for the SOF community. The two right and two left tubes are housed in merged assemblies and are hung from a bridge similar to ANVIS goggles, giving operators interpupillary adjustment options. They can also be easily removed and operated as independent handheld viewers. The Bridge assembly features fore/aft adjustment on a ratchet system and can come configured from the factory in two different variants for different helmet mount setups: Ball Detent (ANVIS) or Dovetail (BNVS).
Legends helmet is molded in gray resin. The resin is soft enough to cut and trim, yet hard enough to withstand handling. The Kit consist of 27 parts making 3 helmets in total. The contents break down as follows:
3 helmet shells
3 GPNVG Battery Packs
3 Tube Mounts
3 NVG Mounts
3 Each Left A/B NVG Tubes
3 Each Right A/B NVG Tubes
3 Snail Lights
I’m not sure why Legend gave 2 different sets of tubes marked A and B. The only thing I see is that one set is molded upside down, opposite to the other set.
The only thing missing is the cable that goes from the battery case to the Tube Mount. This is easily added using lead wire and plastic round rod.
With cleaning and painting, one helmet was done in less than 30 minutes.
This new 3D printing that companies are using are putting nice products with lots of crisp detail. As far as 1/16th scale helmets are concerned, there is not much use for them because most 1/16th scale figures already come with helmets of this type and not much out their in 1/16 scale as far as vehicles are concerned
