Introduction

ICM has offered a new set in the combination style, but this time it is not German or WW2 related and I feel represents a highly valued Commonwealth force in the form of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The ANZAC’s are not greatly represented in model form and for that matter very few of the Commonwealth forces are, so with this release ICM gain my praise despite these models having been available previously as stand alone models. As these models have all been covered previously I only intend to cover the high points of this offering.

Review

The models offered here by ICM are very well packaged in a rugged cardboard flip top box and a separate card lid with an image of the vehicles on it. Inside there are three re-sealable plastic bags, these contain the kit parts for the models with each bag containing all of the parts for one model. An examination of the sprues for these models indicates no moulding issues other than some ejector pin marks that will ideally be dealt with. There are some flow lines on the larger mouldings, but these do not look or feel to have marred the finish of the mouldings concerned. There is no flash present anywhere on the model, and even the seam lines are very light and should be easily dealt with. All of the parts look to be easily accessed where removal is concerned, with care being needed on the really fine parts offered in order to avoid damage.

The three models in this package are:
Model T 1917 LCP
Model T 1917 Utility
Model T 1917 Touring

As always ICM includes some parts that are not easily displayed and so seen. The chassis and oily bits are always well represented in an ICM model, but opening the bonnet/hood is not an easy task without a lot of sanding to thin out the mouldings and surgery to get it looking good. The engines will need some wiring added as this is obviously no covered. My pet hate is present in that none of the front wheels have been tackled to allow the wheels to be assembled turned. With that said I cannot knock ICM for what they do offer. On a plus side as it should please most if not all modellers the wheels and tyres are injected moulded plastic and so no concerns about melting vinyl tyres at some time in the future.

The cabs have all of the needed detail and with a little work on the part of the modeller to give a lived in look could prove to be very visually appealing, I would also look at adding small items such as personal weapons and items of equipment. This area of the models is where I would have liked to see ICM supply drivers or even figures suitable to be stood around the vehicles to provide that scale comparison look to the models and make them look used.

The bodies have been well tackled with the exception of a few ejector pin marks that will need to be tackled during the build, but these are issues we should all be aware of. There are a number of ejector pin marks on the underside of the vehicles floors that while not easily seen I do suggest that they are remedied. The lines are good and look to be accurate from what I can see when judges against limited online images. The decals look good as regards colour and thickness and so a plus point.

Conclusion

I feel ICM has done a good job here of supplying three vehicles that work together in a setting, but I cannot help but feel they have missed a trick by not supplying some figures to bring everything together in a single setting. The detail and moulding is very good overall with the minor issue of ejector pin marks needing to be corrected.

I have been building model kits since the early 70’s starting with Airfix kits of mostly aircraft, then progressing to the point I am at now building predominantly armour kits from all countries and time periods. Living in the middle of Salisbury plain since the 70’s, I have had lots of opportunitie...

Great review Darren, I have been thinking about picking up these kits individually as my Grandfather and his brother both served in WWI and were in Egypt together at one time. Having the three kits in one boxing is a great idea and I will certainly be keeping an eye out for this set locally now. I have seen some very nice builds of each of these kits in various forums, and your assessment closely matches the opinions I have seen elsewhere, no major problems but a few tweaks required to get the best out of the kits. I would REALLY love to see this set released in 1/24 scale. Cheers, D

I have built the gun carrier. Great little kit, no issues with the parts fitting.

These look like a fun diversion from my normal builds.
