Introduction:
With all the 3D produced kits and figures on the market today, many tend to forget it was Live Resin who introduced the 3D technology to military modeling. With about 500 sets in different scales, Live Resin is well known among modelers as the company that provides high quality ultra-realistic resin weapon, accessory and figure sets.

Latest releases from the company include several helicopter pilot and crew figures, and this review covers HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew set - Pilot 4 (LRM 35049). The figure is also available together with HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew set - Pilot 3 (LRM 35048) in a combined set ACS-008.

Review:
The kit is packed in a hard cardboard box. The CAD box art images show the figure from different angles and inside the helicopter cockpit. Although it is not mentioned on the box, the figure is designed to fit Kitty Hawk (KH50006) and Academy (2201 and 2217) Pave Hawk/Black Hawk kits. The kit consists of 8 pieces cast in grey resin, all secured in a single zip-lock bag:

- torso,
- legs,
- right arm,
- left arm,
- head w helmet,
- left boot,
- right boot,
- equipment pouch.

Upon closer inspection of the pieces, I found a superb cast; no imperfections in resin and wonderful details all around. This comes as no surprise as all Live Resin kits I reviewed for Armorama so far feature top-rate casting quality.

After removing the casting blocks and cleaning the pieces, I assembled the figure. The parts fit really well and I had no problems during the assembly. Positioning the pieces is easy; protrusions and indentations in corresponding parts help to align the pieces. The fit is tight and no gaps are visible between the pieces, thus ensuring the putty work is kept to a minimum.

The figure wears Army Aircrew Combat Uniform (A2CU), a two piece flight suit similar to the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) but with some aviator-specific modifications. Over the uniform, the figure wears Air Warrior Primary Survival Gear Carrier (PSGC) system, a modular combat aircrew ensemble, with holster and ammo magazine pouches, as well as seat belts, cast on the figure’s torso. The only additional equipment piece supplied separately in this kit is tactical knife pouch. I opted not to use it in my build. On his head the figure sports HGU56/P helmet with ANVIS NVG mount. All the details of the uniform and equipment are impressively defined and perfectly delivered in resin.

Once assembled, the two pilots (LRM-35048 & LRM-35049) look amazing. Although based on Live Resin’s previous Pave Hawk pilot figures, these offerings feature quite a number of differences. First and foremost it is the poses, which I think are very realistically delivered. The HGU56/P helmet Maxillofacial Shield is absent and the faces of these figures show well. Finally, the addition of seat belts is a very nice touch.

Fitting the pilot to 1/35 scale Pave Hawk model reveals the figure was designed with Kitty Hawk's offering in mind. The seat accommodates the figure well, both boots reaching the pedals. Perfect fit!

Conclusion:
HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew set - Pilot 4 (LRM-35049) is a companion figure to previously reviewed HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter crew set - Pilot 3 (LRM-35048). What’s not to like about the new pilot set from Live Resin? Both figures are perfectly cast and easy to assemble, providing realistic and accurate representation of modern US Army helo pilots in 1/35 scale.

If you have a 1/35 scale Pave Hawk kit and want to add a human touch to the model, it really is a no-brainer: Live Resin’s helo crew figures are a way to go.

About Mario Matijasic (Maki)

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...
