Modern British Tankers

by: Anders Heintz [ ANDERSHEINTZ ]

In my quest for modern figures I came across these two figures from Accurate Armour of Scotland. These are the first figures that I have had the pleasure to see in hand from this manufacturer. The figures are a couple of modern British Tankers, kit # F11 and F12. Both figures were sculpted by Pete Morton

F11 NCO/Officer with Arms Folded
This figure has a very intriguing pose. Standing leaning against something with his arms folded and wearing sun glasses. He could be leaning on a Challenger tank, a wall in Baghdad or on a street corner back home. This pose is quite unique and very versatile with endless diorama and single figure possibilities. The figure is cast in white metal, in only two pieces, the head and the rest of the body. The detail is very good, with natural and realistic folds. The face is very well sculpted and looks like a stern tanker who's been in the game for a while. The sunglasses should make more then a few modelers happy, since painting the eyes will not be necessary. The fit is good with no troublesome seams to fill. There are quite a bit of mould seam to remove, but proved to be an easy task since the metal is soft and easy to work with. A round file, a sharp edged file, X-Acto blade and fine grade steel wool is very handy for cleaning metal figures such as this one.

F12 NCO with hand in pocket
The second figure is standing in a rather casual pose, which also has a lot of potential for a diorama. This figure comes in three parts, Head, Main Body and Left arm. Again the casting and detail is good, with some seam lines to remove. The detail of the head is very good and the face is great! The fit of the head is good, although the neck seems to be a tad long, but this is easily fixed by shortening the neck. The left arm fits decent but a little bit of putty will be needed to cover up the seam line. Another little pointer I have about my example of this figure is that one of his boots (his left) is smaller then the right one. It’s not just a little bit, but quite a bit smaller and this is hard to fix unless you are willing to sculpt a new boot.

Conclusion
In conclusion I would say that these figures would be highly recommended to anyone who fancies modern subjects. The British desert camouflage is an interesting and neat pattern and would be a challange to reproduce in miniature. The two figures could be in a vignette together or in any other modern British diorama with endless possibilities. Accurate Armour also produces other modern British subjects, so if this is something you are interested in, give them a try. Highly Recommended.
