The Polish Photo-Etch (PE) company Aber has now branched out from military topics to the “civilian world.” Aber is the first company I have seen to produce PE items for 1/24th scale automotive topics. Based on the samples I have, I believe this will be a boon for the automotive modeler.

The Set

The set consists of a single PE fret and a small single-sided instruction sheet. Within that fret are 72 individual knob faces in varying sizes and styles. The instruction sheet offers some suggested uses for the different knobs.
The Review

The first three rows (rows 1-3) of PE knobs can be used for a variety of things within the cab of the vehicle that are around the dash – air conditioner knobs, air vent controls, and perhaps controls for a radio. The fourth row (row 4) can also be used on the dash, but may also be used as the knobs for the window cranks.

Because they are PE, they are necessarily thin. The control knobs in all the vehicles I’ve had, for the most part, were reasonably thick…thick enough that you can easily handle them. With that said, I would be inclined to use round plastic stock, cut thinly, to “thicken” these up a tad. Plastic stock would be a necessity if these are used as the window crank knobs.
Highs: Unique detail items for automotive builds. A nice variety of sizes and styles.
Lows: More than likely will require the use of round plastic stock to “thicken” them some.
Verdict: A nice PE set that is worth a look. It can certainly add some flair to the cab of the vehicle.
