M4 Sherman

by: Chuck Bush [ CFBUSH2000 ]

Italeri’s M4 Sherman is, I am told, a re-pop of the old Esci kit. The molding on this kit is good. There are some molded on tools, handles and lifting points. I removed the lifting points on the front hull and replaced them with some from my spares box. But my spares are mostly 35th scale and I could only find two. So I drilled out the rest. The fit is good and I only used a small amount of filler at the rear of the side skirts. This little tank has an interior and engine. The interior is a nice non-skid and paneled floor for the fighting compartment and a transmission cover and drive train for the front. There are no seats or control levers, but even it you leave the hatches open, you can see very little inside. The engine is the radial one, is made up of 8 pieces, and is very nice. You can leave the engine compartment covers open to view it.

Tracks: Those who know me know how I feel about indi or length and link tracks. I would rather eat dirt! In brail scale I don’t stand a chance. However you get a choice of vinyl or L&L tracks. The bad news is that one of the vinyl tracks in my kit was too thinly molded and broke apart in several places. So I bought another kit to finish the first one.

Decals: The decal sheet has a small selection of stars, 3 “USA””s and 2 sets of numbers from 0 to 9 from which to make up the SN. Not my idea of a good time. There are markings for 3 vehicles, 2 OD and one OD and Sand. However, none are identified.

The instruction’s are clear and have painting instructions for Model Master paints.

Conclusion: I had fun building it and now have an appointment with my Optometrist.
At the time this review was written the model was at the painting stage. Pictures will be in my gallery in a few days, if I don’t mess up too bad.
