introduction

J's Work is a diorama accessory manufacturer out of China with an interesting range of products from complete trees to tiles and bricks. These tree stumps can be found in their Terrain Series.

review

Packed in a small corrugated cardboard box, the two identical stumps are further protected with bubble wrap. A card sleeve keeps the box closed and provides an image of the finished product on the top and a suggested setting on the back with part numbers for the recommended J's Work plant life.

Cast in a grey resin the pour stubs are placed on the bottom and are easily removed without damaging the details. Each stump measures approximately 18mm tall and 35mm at their widest points. No scale is given as these can be used, in my opinion, comfortably with 1/35 and 1/48 with the diameter coming in at about 20" and 28" respectively.

Details are well done showing an aged stump that has been the feeding ground and/or home of insects. The fissures in the trunk, bore holes and general decomposition appear realistic. These should paint up beautifully and look right at home in an old growth forest or rural setting.

conclusion

A welcome addition to add to that forest scene, these tree stumps should be a pleasure to paint and weather. At this time, J's Work products are available only at Lucky Model.

About James Bella (c5flies)
FROM: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES

My main interest is 1/35 scale WWII armor, Axis and Allied, and will occasionally branch out into other areas. The builds I have done so far have been pretty much OOB, and considering what most newer kits include, that is usually more than enough for me. Even though my projects do not always end up ...

Last week, when I ran the News Report on J's Work, I must admit to being impressed at the range they offer. Going to the Lucky Model website, I was equally impressed with the prices of their product line. An introduction to what the company has on offer can be seen: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/news/9691

Thanks Jim. It was your news/review that alerted me to these guys and I followed your link and was even more pleased. I just couldn't remember who wrote the last news/review but now that I know it was you, thanks to both you and James for highlighting this company. I'm definately looking at their molds for bricks and tiles as well as their paper products. $5.00 for silicon molds is an excellent price and won't break the bank next payday. Cheers, John

The only disappointing thing about them is they sold out very quickly in some categories. I hope Luckymodel will get more supplies in. Nice review, James!

Agreed. I checked them out on Lucky Model ... especially fo their brick silicon-mould. None left. I would have picked one of these on the spot. A cobble stone variant as well and Id have a great set for buildings and rubble. The tiles are not my cup of tea though.

Frank, I just sent out a cobblestone mold to be reviewed (and a tile one), looked very interesting in the package. Hopefully these will be available soon as I'd like to get one too. I just ordered some of the grass, ivy and leaves from LM and will try and get a quick look at those posted too. As for the tree stumps, I'm very impressed with them and can't wait to start painting them up

I agree their products do look good. I'm not big into dioramas yet, but I think many of these products are worth picking up for test purposes8

I love random little items like these, and can be used in other modelling applications such as Warhammer, fantasy, etc.

I'm definitely picking up some of their stuff, especially the grass and foliage for my current work bench project. I love little companies like this that care about the customer and also care about the quality of their products.
