Introduction

LifeColor recently released a new set of colours into their considerable range of dedicated paint colours, in this case the new set is called “Black Rubber Shades and Co”. The set is designed to provide the modeller with a choice of black for a wide range of applications from rubber tyres to burned black.

Contents

In the standard card box that should be well known to most of us now you will find six paint colours as listed below. The paint is supplied in plastic pots which each contain 22ml of the paint.
• UA 731 Dirty Black
• UA 732 Vulcanized Rubber
• UA 733 Tyre Black
• UA 734 Worn Black
• UA 735 Deep Cockpit
• UA 736 Burned Black

Review

I am sure most of us have at some time mixed colours with black to change the tone for a specific purpose such as painting tyres on a vehicle, however while this approach works it can be difficult to replicate the exact same shade of black. The six paints in this set from LifeColor provides the ability to continuously and consistently replicate various black shades with specific purposes built in while at the same time “knowing modelers” will put these to uses not considered by the manufacturer.

The pigmentation of the paints in this set is excellent ensuring good coverage regardless of the method of application, although this set (in theory at least) would nearly always be applied with a brush rather than an airbrush. Distinguishing the difference in colour is very difficult in a picture but they are noticeably different to the eye, to try and show this I have cross hatched the six colours in the set so that they are all overlaid. There is not a lot else I can really say about this paint set other than it is a handy set to have in your paint selection.

Conclusion

This is a good set of black shades with a host of uses regardless of the names applied by the manufacturer. The strong points of the set are good coverage and pigmentation resulting in an easy to use paint with good results.

SUMMARY
Highs: This paint set has good coverage and pigmentation.
Lows: There are no weak points to this set.
Verdict: A handy set of colours to have on hand for consistent black shades.
