Introduction

Djiti Productions, a small resin manufacturer out of France, has in the past couple of years started to really crank up an impressive schedule of releases. Most are single figures, focusing mainly on modern subjects, but their work also includes a number of items such as wheels, antennae, ratchet straps, etc. as well as a smattering of World War II figures. Recently, they have released a resin figure, 1/35 scale number 35050, of a US Tank Crew figure wearing the heavier winter overalls and winter combat jacket.

Review

The figure comes packaged in a nice blister type clear plastic package with a color card of the finished and painted figure. There are no instructions or painting guide other than the enclosed card, but really you won’t need any more than that. The figure is broken down into only three pieces; main torso legs and head, left arm and hand, and right arm and hand which is holding an M1 Garand rifle. The figures all have resin attachment points that will be easily dealt with. I was able to quickly clean up the two arms for attachment to the body without any issues at all.

The fit of the two arms to the body was good, but not great. There was a bit of a gap after construction, particularly with the left arm that would require a bit of filler, nothing to daunting but I wanted to let you know that it is not quite a glove tight fit right out of the chute. The level of sculpting is excellent; I particularly liked the extra bit of sag in the jacket pocket area indicating that this guy used his front pockets liberally. He is sculpted with the pistol holster on his rear right hip. The molding for the M1 Garand is adequate, not really the high point of the figure. The hand that holds the weapon does have a bit of extra resin in a blob that will need to be cleaned out for better definition as will a few other spots, particularly in the hands.

Conclusion

I had two issues with the figure; first, the arms seem just a bit short with the fingertips just barely reaching the crotch of the figure. I think most people have arms that are just a bit (three or so inches) longer than that. The other issue that I noted was the pose and the way the figure is holding the M1, while I like the idea of the weapon already molded into the hand the figure has a bit of a GI Joe type squeeze grip on the weapon rather that a more secure wrap around grip if you know what I mean. It is a rifle that weighs in at about 10 pounds, so you would want a positive grip on the thing. (You sure don’t want to drop it and shoot your eye out; your mom would never let you live it down!)

Despite these two smallish issues it is, overall, a nice figure that should be a welcome addition to any winter 44-45 scene or vignette, even if only to give a bit of scale concept to your model. I am hoping that Djiti Productions will grace us with a few more WWII figures in the near future.
SUMMARY
Highs: Good sculpting of the clothing, nice facial features. I like that the weapon is molded in the hand rather than needing to be added.
Lows: short look to the arms, hands could have a more positive grip on the Garand. Rifle is only so-so.
Verdict: Recommended, but with a few reservations.

About Rick Cooper (clovis899)
FROM: CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES

I have been modeling for about 30 years now. Once upon a time in another century I owned my own hobby shop; way more work than it was worth. I tip my opti-visor to those who make a real living at it. Mainly build armor these days but I keep working at figures, planes and the occasional ship.
