Todd Michalak walks us through the Rusting, Chipping and Weathering process in this excellent step-by-step article. Although the base model is not an AFV, the techniques shown can be used for a variety of subjects. Well worth a read...and a re-read!

Amazing. One of the best weathering articles published on Armorama in a while... very descriptive and the pictures look professional. Todd, well done and thanks for such a great article. Hope to see more of your features here.

A most excellent and very informative article, Tood!

Quick question. Can you tell me what primer you used? I don't see it mentioned in the article so I'm curious. It looks really smooth.

Thanks for sharing,

Rob

Hi Rob! Thanks for the kind words!!! As for the primer....this time I had used Alclad's Grey Primer/Micro Filler. I love the stuff but the lacquer I could do without. Great question, because a number of time when using a good dark rust base, often i will shoot something like the Tamiya Dark Brown on everything and the hightlight from there. Once sealed it seams to work really well, otherwise i will shoot Vallejo's Grey Primer 1st!!

Thank you very much Karl, it is most appreciated!

Todd, you tutorial is simply awesome!

Your explanations, your pictures and the completed model - better than anything else that I have read in magazines and books.

If I hadn't finished my current rust-job directly before reading you tutorial, I would have tried it right away.

Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us!

cheers
Thomas

Thanks for the feedback, Tood! Yeah, I can't do Lacquer due to the fumes and the wife being allergic to it so I've started using Vallejo's grey primer as well. I just liked how the primer came out in your picture.
