I noticed that Tamiya hasn't updated the M2HB Ammo boxes for this kit, they're stiil the same old WWII ones issued with the old sherman.

Along with the ammo box my biggest disappointment is that the road wheels are not rubber and have to be painted. All other Tamiya 1/16 th kits that need rubber road wheels have them. Why not this kit? I am happy about non skid. I was told by Japanese hobby shop that they have no release date now for full option kit. They said there were some design problems??. Maybe the wheels will get fixed

Guess we'll see when the RC version is finally released.

I'm a bit confused regarding the ammo boxes. Presumably the one shown here is the modern type -

In the link, shots of the sprues - pic 80 - shows the M2HB Browning parts, which include a WWII M2 ammunition box, rather than the post war M2A1 ammunition box. This appears to be the same sprue as M26 Pershing & M4 Sherman kits.
It may be that the MG on the Type 10 does not use an ammo box, just an ammo tray? That would be a bit strange, but not impossible.

Hi Mal,

Right, I think I've got to the bottom of it. You are quite correct about the ammo box on pic 80, however, if you look at the 'D' sprue in the link, it does show just the tray itself. In the instructions, step 65, it shows the D parts to be used rather than the old ammo box.

I guess you have the option to use either. Anyway, all of the photos of the Type 10 I can find on google only ever shows the tray in operation ,not the box.

I've ordered mine anyway!!

Mal,

My version is the static model, so the rubber wheels and the tracks don't matter quite so much. Same goes for the suspension arms and the other strength issues. It's an interesting read, though. I didn't know Tamiya were cutting costs (and therefore corners).

The cutting costs & corners appears to apply to this particular model - the RC version. Might be a stretch to say it applies to their whole range though.

My type 10 has arrived from Japan! The hull is made of aluminium, as is the gun barrel (which is stunning, by the way).

Question - what would you fellas use as a metal primer? Could I use something like this -
