Yes, Darren's pictures show the bin attachment brackets very well, which saves me uploading mine.

Good...but can you explain your other recommendation?

"You might want to remove the wading rail behind the transverse depression stop rail, as these were removed when the raised transmission covers were fitted."

I don't know all the jargon used on the Chieftain so an image or explanation would be great...if you have time of course.

Hi Jason,
I think what he meant is this:
The wading rail formerly surrounded the full engine deck covers. During upgrades, the rearmost engine covers were lifted up a little. During this conversion, at the rear of the engine deck covers this wading rail was removed. You can see this on the picture enclosed, when you look at the rear filler caps and behind the rear engine deck covers. There you can see only the remains of this wading rail. All the rail that was present behind the gun depression stoppers (these bars with the rubber top) was removed.

Hope that helps a little...

Thanks, that clears it up Andreas. I knew where the wading rail was but just wasn't sure where it was trimmed down.

At least now I won't have to ask for a phased plasma rifle in the 40 Watt range.

Yes, Andreas has it exactly. I was rather relieved to observe it when I built mine based on the Tamiya kit because it saved me the challenge of getting a length of 1mm brass channel to match the profile of the original with six bends in two directions and keeping it symmetrical.

The lower flange was left in place so it's not necessary to remove all traces of the wading rail, as photos show. I can post some tomorrow if desired.

"Just what you see on the shelf, buddy." :-)

It's great to see this kit being blogged - it's next on my build list after the TAKOM AMX-13/90.

In the image below, taken from the same series, it appears that the rail is only fully missing between the arrows I've added. While it looks as though it's been cut down at the rear of the deck, there is still a pronounced rail visible there.

Am I mistaken in my interpretation?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi everyone. First of all an apology to Darren as this build has not moved on in four years. I have had a move to ship building and this kit has sat in a box awaiting completion.

However, it will be resurrected and completed. I’ve decided to do it as a vehicle on exercise as part of North Army Group parked up in on the side of a road with some crew.

There will be a short delay whilst we have some building work done in the new house then this will be my priority build.

Will look forward to watching you complete this one Toby. This was the last mk Chieftain that I was on in Germany before we converted to Chally 1's in Sennelager.
