Hi!!!

I'm planing on building a M2A1 and paint it in MERDC camo scheme. I wanted to do it either in Snow-Temperate Climate with Open Terrain or Desert Gray Scheme. The problem is I haven't found a single photograph of a Bradley in any of these schemes. I've only found pictures in Summer, US & Europe, Verdant and Tropics, Verdant.

Snow-Temperate Climate with Open Terrain

Desert Gray

Does anyone know if they were ever painted in the schemes I wish to use? Many thanks and cheers!!!

Thanks! Had read this topic before posting, but found no reference to Bradleys in the colour schemes I mentioned.

Look for TB 43-0209 after oct 76 and before Oct 90. This is the official army paint guide. Before 76 there is no M2 and after 90 it's three color schemes. I checked the two manuals above and they were not what you need.

Remember that when the Bradley first arrived, they were assigned to Germany and to a few high priority stateside active duty divisions. By the time they were issued to lesser units, the Army was already using 3-color NATO and solid desert tan.

Mechanized infantry units like the 8th Infantry Division in Germany were still equipped with M113A2s and M901 ITVs as late as 1991. Most of the active duty infantry divisions in the US (4ID, 5ID, 9ID) did not see the Bradley until after Desert Storm.

This is sad news for me then... since it seems that is mostly unlikely that Bradleys where ever painted in the schemes I want to use... Will have to decide if I stick to historical accuracy or simple do what I like and enjoy the ride....

I believe the Tamiya M2 and M3 kits come with the MERDC pattern, you just use the proper four colors for the region. It is your kit so you can build it as you wish.

The regular M2/M3 and M2A1/M3A1 didn't last very long on active duty before it was replaced by the M2A2ODS/M3A2ODS.

The paint police will not arrest you for a MERDC pattern on a Bradley. Besides, the Army every now and then paints vehicles in some weird schemes out of nostalgia or for particular parades. I've seen M1 tanks in WWII green with big white stars on them.

The Navy's done it too. Back in 2011, as part of the celebration of the centennial of Naval Aviation, a number of aircraft were painted in WWII paint schemes, with others in schemes ranging from WWI to Vietnam. You can find an article about it on airfighters.com, which includes a list of the aircraft that were repainted in historical schemes.

Well, here's an updtae on the Bradley. Still have to do some weathering with pigments (I don't plan to weather it too much, so it is almost done). Will make a post with the finished model soon. Cheers!
