Hi there people!

I used to be quite an active modeller and user of armorama (mainly the benelux section, which appears to be quite dead nowadays, pity...). But then we got a daughter. And a house. Renovation. A son. A new house. Renovation. And all of a sudden years have passed, and as I was looking at some old pictures of the Panzer Ia I was working on, I noticed I started construction in may 2008 - more than 10 years ago!! That was a bit of a shock...

Luckily recently I'm having some more time, and I picked up the hobby again, hopefully I'm back on track again, got some models in my stash waiting for more than a decade.

So here's a picture of the little one I'm working on. I hope to have it finished before 2020 Some of the modelling finesse, skills and knowledge were buried deep, but all in all it didn't take me long to get back into it.

The Panzer is hand painted, and received some filters and pinwashes. After I paint the tracks it's ready to get chipped and dusted, so still quite some work. I realise it looks a bit roughly done, I need some more practice. I already corrected some pinwashes that stand out a bit too much to my taste.

It's a picture I took with my mediocre phone camera, sorry bout that.

EDIT : also, the spare tracks and wheel obviously aren't 'treated' yet :-)

Looks good so far. Nice weathering.
The rest of the paintjob and some matte varnish and it will be a little gem.

Thx! Yeah, I'll have to varnish it. I was hoping not to, so that here and there the metal feel would satin-shine through the dust etc, to me it looks a bit more realistic that way. But the filters and washes dried quite unevingly, "shine-wise". I hope I won't ruin anything by spraying varnish over the whole though.

I too had a gap in my modeling hobby due to houses, remodeling, a kid, moves, etc. I went inactive 2004-2017.

I used to write the start date of builds on the instruction sheets. I actually had one started build from the 80's, a couple from the 90's, and many from the 2001-2003 time frame. I'm working my way through those old builds and starting many more new one's as well. Reviving old builds brings back lots of memories of the time when I had done the previous work. It feels a bit like raising the dead.

I hear you... kids take all of your time, if you also move it's no surprise you have had to stop modelling. In any case it is not rare for me to be 2 years with a model

Your Pz. I looks great, you can add as much dust as you want but please don't overdo the scratches... in fact, I would leave it as it is in that sense

Indeed, this particular build was from my early days of model building. I restarted it several times, but finally got it across the finish line this year. It was the longest build time ever for me (1988 - 2019).

Wow! Probably a world record there

Luckily, mine won't take thát long. In fact, the end is coming into sight. I treated the little one with the oilpaint-dots technique, and after some subtle chipping (sorry @varanusk) it is almost ready to receive a little bit of dried mud, and quite some dust

I should tone down the spare tracks I see now, and lighten up the spare wheel.

Hans, like your choice for an Avatar. TYA was my first concert.
The chipping looks good and the red/brown for the wire cutters looks like Bakelite to me as it should be. Good attention to detail !
Thanks for sharing !

Unfortunately i never saw them live, my dad did though, that's how I got to know them - great band, jealous you got to see them live!

Thx for your feedback! I saw the red/brown on another model, and I liked it, so I copied it I had no idea it was Bakelite, thought it represented some reddish wood. Thanks for the info! I think it's a very nice colour, it breaks the German grey a bit.

So, this is the end of this build!!Thanks for watching and commenting

I kinda had to get used again to working with pigments, things went wrong, and I had quite some work to get it more or less ok again. It's far more dusty than I intented it to be in the first place, but hey, I learned some lessons, and had some fun all the while

Here are some pictures, the last one is for scale - how two adults could fit in such a small thing is beyond me

Great looking little beast. Sure doesn't look like you have lost any skills during your time off!

Thx Dale and Mike!

I had fun finishing this one. I love that it's so small, and it's a great tank from a modeller's point of view because there's a lot to see, lots of little details and variation. Very pleasing to the eye.

Looks good Hans. Can relate on the family, housing and life’s priorities. I recently got back into modeling myself after four years.
