Apologies for it`s not a tank, but Kiowa`s are part of US Army and I saw it many times here.

https://www.revell.de/produkte/produktneuheiten/oh-58-kiowa.html

I guess it`s a rebox of the old MRC kit, not bad for it`s age.
Maybe Live Resin can kick in and make some stuff like pilots, weapons or armament. I only whish that somedays someone releases a Plain Jane OH-58 A (Childhood memories!).

Yes, it is a reissue/rebox of the MRC/Academy OH-58D with new markings. It is a really nice kit and builds up well. There is already a couple update/detail sets for the Academy one by both Werner's Wings and Zacto models. It also comes with a couple really nice pilots, probably the best in plastic.

The sand one looks to be based on this OH-58D from Operation Desert Shield/Storm ('90-'91).

Also, this is why we have the Aeroscale Rotary Wing Forum.

As Gino said, it is the same kit.

The Fireball Modelworks decals will work for this also.

Good luck finding them. Unfortunately, Joseph at Fireball no longer makes the decals nor helicopter accessories. He has switched to car modeling.

That is not 100% correct, he still sales Huey rockets at his shapeways store. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/fireballmodels

My son started his career as a 15S. This would be a nice gift for him if I didn’t already have the older kit with the Werner’s conversion.

I wasn't aware he was still selling them on Shapeways. Glad he isn't totally gone. He had some really nice decals and other products.

A full 1:35 plastic kit for an OIF/OEF version would be more interesting than this simple rebox.

Although I have no space to display it, I'd be thrilled if someone made an accurate kit of the MD Helicopter's MD 969 "Twin Engine."

It can transport six troops, has interior ATGM and drone launch tubes, AND has the weapons plank for armament...combo AH-6/MH-6 in one helicopter.

you should submit this as an idea to Kitty Hawk as they seem to be making a lot of these special forces helicopters.

A couple of new tooled US Army helicopters in 1/35 scale would be most welcome. I am a "victim" of REFORGER FTX. Daily border patrol flights with OH-58A and AH-1 S. I guess we never had a AH-1 S/F in 1/35 scale. Also new AH-64 A/D/E Apache and CH-47 Chinook. Kitty Hawk please!!!!

Another example of an armed helicopter.

Why no CH-54 in 1/35 cale?

As I have the Academy kit of this, I am hoping for some fresh decal options to come out, as the decals in the kit for 'black 727' don't match the aircraft, look behind the engine cowl, that sensor there will take some surgery to remove.

Since this topic has popped back up here, I will add a few comments to earlier posts.

That is what the Werner's Wings Upgarde Set is for.

Alternately, later in the Iraq war, they reverted back to the original engine cowl configuration (not sure why), so it is still correct out of the box.
From Nov '09.

No real market for it since it is only a demonstrator at this point. I don't even think the US Army is seriously looking at it to replace anything. If some military starts using it, then we may see a model of it, but probably not in 1/35.

I guess we never had a AH-1 S/F in 1/35 scale. Also new AH-64 A/D/E Apache and CH-47 Chinook.

No plastic AH-1S/F in 1/35, but Werner's Wings has a resin conversion set/kit in 1/32 for the Revell AH-1G. It is really nice, but pricey.

Nothing new on the Apache side, other than the recent rebox of the really bad Hap Dong/Kangam/Imex AH-64A by Academy. A new-tool AH-64 would be awesome.

The older 1/32 Revell/Monogram AH-64A is pretty nice and can be made really nice w/Eduard PE, Verlinden's and a few other AM sets.

For the Chinook, Trumpeter does a CH-47A and CH-47D in 1/35 and both are very nice and well detailed.

Why no CH-54 in 1/35 cale?

Because it would be huge and very expensive. The fuselage would be almost 3 feet long with a 2 foot rotor diameter. There is probably not a big market for something that big.

Best bet would be to hope (maybe ask) Floyd at Werner's Wings does some additional decals for it. He flew OH-58Ds and AH-1F/S Cobras.

Before my son became an Apache Mechanic, his first duty station was at Wheeler Army Airbase in Hawaii as an OH-58D mechanic. (15S) I’ve got whichever of the two kits is supposed to be better along with the resin upgrade. Have long wanted to replicate a scene where one does a hard landing and pilot is rescued by a QRF in Strykers. Probably 15th on the list of priorities, but with his photos of the opened up engine compartment (bird in question took an RPG hit) it ought to turn out fairly well.

Gino, you tickled a memory: Did Floyd Werner write a book? It's in the back of my mind I've read it.....

He did an OH-58D Walkaround for Squadron-Signal. This is the only book of his I know of.

Sadly a non-armed scout/liasion bird is less attractive than a gunship. But I also like to have an OH-85 A/B/C for the old REFORGER times sake.

If you must have one, you can still find the Revell 1/32 Jet Ranger model. With a minor bit of work, it can be converted to an OH-58A/B/C model. It has come in many boxings over the years, with a couple of them having military markings (US and Canada).

You can get 1/32 high skids from Heli-Scale Quality out of Germany as well.

For a more detailed model, you could always back-date the MRC/Academy OH-58D by combining the two and reworking the engine cowl/sail and using the two-blade rotor.

Lots of options.

Does anyone know of any other stockists for the Werners Wings OH-58D update that Gino mentioned? I've trawled the net without success and it is showing as out of stock and production on the Werners Wings site.
