Counting down the hours to kick off guys?

My Entry:
The Ol' Tamiya M113 and Verlinden conversion set for a M981 Fist.

"The M981 FISTV (Fire Support Team Vehicle) is a United States Army armored vehicle designed to house an artillery observer team in mechanized units.

The principal equipment on the FISTV is the Ground/Vehicular Laser Locator Designator (G/VLLD), pronounced "glid". This device obtains precise range information to a lased target. When combined with directional control from an inertial navigation system and vehicle coordinates from the GPS, the system is able to obtain precise coordinates of a designated target. "
Wikipeadia

Thought it about time to build this, as I bought both the kit and conversion when Verlinden first released it in the '80's...

The Kasten tracks were a recent addition to the set of course.

Ok... try this again.

I'll be building the Panzerspahwagen Luchs by Takom.

Nice choice Gaz. I have the kit too, so between you and Wayne, it will be nice to see how you both tackle it before I do.

I will keep my eyes on your builds, in accordance with campaign theme... (: For now. My bench is in usual chaos with nine WIP-s on it.

Plus, I have to move to another apartment in next week or two.
Hopefully, I'll be joining soon enough.
So, Peter, aircrafts are allowed?

Here's my entry:

There would be two other paint schemes (one two-colort desert, and three-color Dieppe scheme), but I think I'll be painting the kit as shown in cover.

Nice choice Pasi. I have built the Mark 3 version of the kit and it went together very well. I hope the same goes for yours.

Bogi. The rules are for a military vehicle and an aircraft is a vehicle, so yes, as long as it is military observation plane you are sweet to go on whatever you choose.

9 builds on the bench at the moment. Okay then, I expect we will see your start pics in a week's time - you over achiever...

9 WIP's on Boggie's bench...and I have not touched anything modelling related for the last 4 weeks

Five out of six Campaigns I enlisted to are already running so it's time to end the hiatus. Thanks Boggie-I really needed that picture!

Now what I have:
a BLG-60M2 with construction done at 99,5%,
a SU-100 tank destroyer awaiting late T-34/85 running wheels delivery,
a GAZ-66 based R-142N command and HQ truck awaiting some Blue Stuff from Green Stuff World for duplicating some of the radio sets available in BTR-60PU, and
a Wuerzburg D radar with 2 Sd.Anh.104 to scratchbuilt, that only awaites me getting back to business.

4 builds and I'll start them all now and will build them simultaneously (I'm only half-Boggie-able)

Starting picture of the radar I'll build for this Campaign:

I'll be using:
1. Amusing Hobby's #35A020 "12.8cm Flak 40 & FuMG 39D" kit( minus the Flak gun that went to Kalin).
I will build the radar set in transport mode, so there will be some surgery(plus I read some not quite flattering reviews, so I expect surprises).
2. Ark Models #35006 "PaK 43" kit(2 grey sprues) will donor the fenders for both Sd.Anh.104 trailers, plus some other small stuff.
The Sd.Anh.104 will be scratchbuilt to construction notices I made while building a Bulgarian Ringtrichter Richtungshoerer(RRH) last spring:

Intend to build the radar in this configuration:

The Wuerzburg will represent one of the sets, deployed by Bulgarian Royal Army in 1945:

Well, 3 of nine builds are almost done, 3 are artillery guns, one can wait so only last two, Priest and Bishop are real work awaiting.
Now, I was planing 3 builds, Piper Cub and Pz.Bef.Wg.III, plus third one as surprise... It never crossed my mind that someone else can have the same idea. So, Angel, thank's for ruining it.

I will use, same as Angel, only FuMG39D. Only difference is that I will wait for either Trumpeter or Modelcolect to release 5cm Flak 41 and use Sd.Anh.204 from that kit. If they are late to release them, I will do FuMG in combat position.
Funny thing is that one day after buying this model I found out that Das Werk is planing FuMG39 for this year. I wander if it's the same kit...
Angel, I will let you take the lead so please hurry up.. .
Pasi, nice choice, good luck and have fun.

I was thinking about this little fellow.

This captured sd.kfz.250/10 was used for recon by the Polish 13th Self Propelled Artillery Regiment in Pomerania in 1945. Does it fit to the rules of this campaign? If not I can easily find something else in my stash.

Hi Marek

If this were a radio equipped version of the SdKfz 250 it would fit, but the Pak 35 is a bit bigger than I envisaged the defensive weaponry to be. I was think more along the lines of a maximum 25mm as in the LAV, otherwise we edging over into offensive capability, not defensive.

e.g. a British Humber Armoured car Mk 2 or Mk 3 is fine with the 15 mm Besa, but the Mk IV with a 37mm gun would not fit in.

Bogi's choice of Pz.Bef.Wg.III is okay as it had a dummy gun made of aluminium alloy fitted to it to hide the vehicle's main purpose.

It is a great picture though and I can see why you would want to depict it. I hope you can join with something else. I would enjoy seeing your build.

OK. I'm under way with the Wiesel 2 LeFlaSys AFF radar vehicle. This is not the launcher platform. I have that one also; but it's not part of this campaign.

My German might be a little rusty; but "LeFlaSys" is an acronym for "leichtes Flugabwehrsystem" or light anti-aircraft system. Any of my Bundeswehr brethren can correct me.

Welcome aboard Richard and Angel.

Richard, I see you didn't change your mind on the kit you chose. I have often thought about buying a Wiesel kit, but never actually picked one up... you may tempt to get one..

Angel, another scratch built delight coming up. I'm waiting here with 'worm on tongue' as usual...

Shell the Panzerbeobachtungswagen is fine- The name actually means artillery observation vehicle, so how can I say no?

Did you know there is some conjecture over whether the vehicle was a field modification or an actual factory build variant? Either way, the purpose fits the theme and so does the gun size... Welcome aboard.

OK Peter, I understand and agree with your arguments. That is why I choose another model from the same shelf.

Even though I have three models of the sd.kfz.251/3 ready to assemble I will use a tamiya's one to do a specific version of 251/3.
This is the most famous vehicle, at least among Polish military enthusiasts.
This is a Sd Kfz 251/3-IV Ausf. D employed by the HQ of 19th Panzer Division. It broke through the ice while crossing the Pilica river in Poland and sunk during the retreat of German troops on January 1945. It was recovered from the river in 1996 with full equipment: three radio sets, MG 42, hand grenades some personal stuff and even a stove.
After renovation it is in running condition now and it is a valuable museum piece.
https://www.muzeumtomaszow.pl/wystawy/historia-wystawy/rosi-wojenne-pamiatki (this page is in Polish only)

I chose tamiya because I always wanted to use this extra wheel set from AFV. There is also a dedicated set of PE from Part with the proper radio rack for the 251/3-IV version.
And I'll probably use some parts from AVF's 251.

Sorry to hear I ruinned your secret, Bogi...
My fault/pleasure

Thanks Peter!
If 80 years ago our Army ordered the Wuerzburgs mounted on Anhängerfahrgestell A2:

then my scratchbuild would have been a bigger challenge for sure.

Situation report on my build:
some parts were cut, some were cleaned and all were glued together:

I see a plenty of interesting ideas in this Campaign-good luck with your builds, gentlemen!

Here is the starting picture from the previous campaign tread. The AB43 kit from Italeri.

Construction is already finished. A quick build although the fit of the superstructure needs some sanding and light filling.

More to follow

This build is going really fast. 12 steps done in a day. Almost read for some seam filling and priming. Then I've got to put together my shopping list for Sprue Brothers or Squadron.

Nice choice Marek. The old Tamiya kit goes together well. I built one and fully detailed it by scratch building years ago... then Dragon came out with theirs....

That 'whells' and Track set is great too.

Boys, you're all off to good starts. I have started my build - cutting off resin pour plugs and sanding them.. long and tedious for very little to see....

Hi all, lots of interesting builds in progress.

I recently picked up Trumpeter's new 1S91 "Straight Flush" radar kit. Perfect timing for this campaign. Would love to see them come out with a 1S32 Pat Hand someday...

The kit comes with a number of painting options, I am leaning towards this Hungarian vehicle: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:1S91_radar.jpg

Pete, that was one of the first models I ever bought and built in Germany as a kid back in 1981.

I wanted to check if a Stryker M1130 command vehicle is a go for this build?

No problem with that Kelly. It is a specifically designated command and control vehicle and I extended the basic theme parameters a tad to allow for such when it was proposed.

"Dear Mr Verlinden

I hope this missive finds you well, for I am somewhat ill at ease and in less than in good spirits myself.

The cause for my current condition can be found in one of your delightful products:
# 547 M981 'Fist' M113 Coversion Kit.

"What perturbs me?" you ask..

Well it appears this product is somewhat less than the quality that I would expect from a gentleman of your reputation. In fact, I must say I feel the quality control on this item has been quite scandalous and the overly (very overly) simplified nature of the detail quite unbecoming to a modeller's even reduced expectations of standards.

Might I elaborate?

Now I must admit, my knowledge of the sciences may be limited to high school level education, however, even so, I feel I have sufficient ability to grasp the concepts of physics and gravity. So much so, that I am quite aware that in order to support something more tangible than imagination off the ground, said item must be connected to other such items in turn connected with the surface of the earth, else some form of reverse polarity magnetism must be engaged. I am fairly certain that the M981 'FIST', in real life, has no such magnetically induced tendencies, which leads me to ponder your intent in these components of said M981 Fist Conversion Kit...

What is more, the principles of the TARDIS notwithstanding, it is commonly understood that for something small to be on the outside, the outside itself must, indeed, be even smaller than that which is to be the outside... my point in illustration dear sir..

It is also with great misgiving that I must also point out that the solid sides and flat bottom of the ocular assembly you have provided in no way represents that which can be found on the subject vehicle in real life.

I appreciate that my commentary may appear a trifle harsh, particularly as having acquired said conversion kits some 3 decades prior, and as such, your ability to correct such issues as to improve upon the product and projected sales is somewhat moot. However, it ill behooves me to sit idly by and allow such shoddy workmanship slide without having at least brought the issue to your attention.

My duty now complete, I wish you 'Adieu' (safe in the knowledge your native tongue is French) and give you the time that investigation of this travesty will undoubtedly take.

Yours Faithfully

Peter Battle."

That is one of the more special posts - I like it

Looking forward to see what you get from it. Maybe liberal use of camouflage netting is a backup solution

Just proving satire is not dead Jesper.

Next pics here will be the rectification work I have commenced working on, but I started this build as I waited for the copious applications of putty to dry on another build - Hobby Boss Dana for the got wheels campaign.

I'll be building them both in stages together, so maybe a little time between progress pics like Richard.

Hoping to see some of the other guys get into their builds soon.
