It may be an old kit, but it builds up beautifully and holds up against more modern kits. The figures, not so much, but if you are into a bit of detailing and sculpting, they can also come out very well. Change the heads, open cuffs and undercut pockets, and modify shirt fronts (buttoned to the top when in action??) and they look more natural.

I built one several years ago and added a tarp to hide the inside - seemed to work out OK.

After re-reading the campaign requirements again...I realized after looking in the stash, there is no unbuilt kit of the era...that all my old technology kits have been sold, or given away. The only pre-2000 anything is the somewhat built M47's that sat in the "I'll get to it in 2 decades" bin. It was painted flat green, over 20-25 years ago and that is all the progress done to it. I should disqualify myself??? Ruling??

Its an M47, with a basic/minimal incomplete hull, incomplete turret, no road wheels, half attempt at paint (testing of a new airbrush at the time).
Still requires tons of aftermarket and adding other goodies.

Wow, neat concept. I build mostly wingy things and I've certainly got a lot of them would qualify on a plane campaign. But, almost all of my armor fits into the category along with the smattering of soft sides and APCs. So now I'm down to 2 great choices, Revelogram's 2011 boxing of a 1/35 M48A2 from 1958! Or a more modern Tamiya 1/35 M41 from 1973. The M41 is 'started', I was filling and sanding the motorization features, but it doesn't look like any of the kit parts actually got glued together.

Mark the rules state:
"Focus is on vehicles, but accompanying figures are of course welcome."
The last time anyone explained to me about a 'vehicle', I was told it was a self-propelled thing for transporting people or cargo. That makes a wingy thingy a viable option here... transporting people (pilot) .... and Cargo which it occasionally offloads to the detriment of other vehicles.
I'm sure Ron would be okay with a plane if that is what you want to do.

Good choices! I recently built the M48A2 for the Shep Paine Tribute campaign, and with the "three foot" rule the old gal scrubs up ok...

Is there an easy way to date a tamiya kit ?? I have an old Horch 4x4, M2/3 halftrack and a Flak 88mm. I know I bought them around 2000... But not exactly sure of the date.....
If so, I would be in with one of those.
have a look on the hull for the tamiya logo and there is usually a year stamp to. my m41 bulldog said 1967.

After looking at the turret, the damage to it is a lot more than I thought...broken turret ring and a spilt down the seam. Knocked off pieces here and there (hoping I can find them). Basecoat of primer on the chassis is "sticky", so it might have to be stripped (not looking forward to that). I thought I had a better condition model...now I have to consider trashing it. Sat in the box too long I suppose...of which having been exposed to humidity over time, has caused slight cloudiness embedded in the paint.

Bummer about that M47. But the good news is you still have time to get another Italeri (or Revell re-pop) M47 and then "reduce the stash" by building it when the campaign starts!
It's still a very good kit, even compared to the newer Takom versions.
