The mini-art SU-85 doesn't come with an antenna. Looking at images online, it mostly looks like a straight antenna sticking up with no accoutrements. But the drawings on engines of the red army show some with some kind of apparatus at the bottom. Any help on what it should actually look like?

Also, just out of curiosity, some of the pictures show an empty antenna holder that is horizontal. Was it possible for the crew to rotate the antenna holder from inside?

I've seen a few with straight antennae, and at least one with an ogive shaped apparatus about six inches above the top of the cylindrical holder. I can only guess it's an insulator or something similar. And yes it is designed to rotate to the horizontal. Overhead catenary wire in Europe is not something you want your antenna to come into contact with.

I cab't find any of my SU-85 photos at the moment. They're prints, so they could be anywhere. However, I do have some I took of an SU-100 that show a bit of a different setup. It's not unreasonable to assume the SU-85 could have had the same mount.

Thanks. I found some aftermarket post war Soviet insulators that don't look quite the same as the photos I've seen. I'll probably just go for a straight antenna and call it done.

thanks for the links. I may have to try to get the magic models version. I did see a couple of photos that looked like the earlier version.

That represents the one I alluded to with the ogive shape. Of course, I suppose it may look like different things to "different" people.

I wasn't sure what an ogive was, but in our context I knew that's what you must have meant!

Brrrrraaaaahhhh. Had I turned a couple of pages I'd have realized there is an antenna included in the kit....
