Building a base for a 1/16 scale figure

Foreword by the Master
”Today, we armor modellers are blessed with an abundance of precisely detailed kits beyond the wildest dreams of the struggling enthusiasts of those lean years, who had to wrestle with clunky clockwork motors and rubber-band tracks. ........
So, if you are just starting out in armor modelling, you’ve come in at just the right time. And, if you’ve been an armor modeller for a few years, count your blessings – the pickings were not always this rich!”

This is the foreword from Sheperd Paine in his book “Modelling Tanks and Military Vehicles”, first released in 1982.

That may have been true in 1982, but is almost perfectly phrased for today, where 1/35 scale is concerned. Almost every conceivable item exists for A.F.V.s, vehicles, figures and dioramas, in kit form or from the aftermarket companies. Alas, the same cannot be said for 1/16 scale. Because of the size, the cost for products would be unaffordable for most, never mind the space needed to show it off.
So, for your latest 1/16 scale project, if you want a suitable base, the simplest way, is to use all those 1/35 articles that have inspired you, and upscale it, to suit.

Nice - but I cannot help wonder why 5 of the 11 photos are of the figure when the article is about the base ??

Hi Jan. Firstly this was posted more than 3 years ago ... its not new. There are several in-progress shots of the base and how it was made, and there are only so many angles you can show the same piece of wall from. The title of the piece is called "Building a base for a 1/16 scale figure" so I thought .... silly me .... that a few pics including the figure would be suitable for this article.

Yeah, well somebody brought it up again I agree that 1-2 pictures of the fully painted figure (which is nice too) would be fine - but why the unpainted pictures etc.... N/M - just a thought
