Yom Kippur - After the Victory

For the BMP1 tank I used the Italeri Kit and made my own markings for the Egyptian Army version. The kit was quite easy to assemble and a good fit without any problems. I was going for a "beat up" look for a vehicle that has been through a tough battle. For the diorama I used an under construction building model made of plaster by then company M.M.A. in Lebanon and added a lot of rubble and the wooden pillar coverings on top to match our construction methods in the Middle East. The building was quite a challenge to build and paint as it had many optional modular walls and window patterns to be cut according to size and need. I used mixed figures from many figure kits I had and converted them all to Yom Kippur war Egyptian uniforms by removing many details off the figures as the Egyptian uniform was very simple. I also used bits and pieces of old figures to achieve the desired poses. The distribution of the figures in the building took a lot of consideration to make the diorama interesting to see from all angles. Overall I think this is the largest diorama I have ever made and most definitely the heaviest weighing more than 5 kilos!

For those interested the building made of plaster is from the company M.M.A. Middle East Modeling Accessories, they make excellent middle east diorama stuff designed & made by Ahmed Kammourieh in Lebanon.

Hi Richard I used Tamiya Grey paint followed by several layers of light black wash and mud, dust & sand pigments. I am travelling now so I will check the exact color code once back home. Cheers Hussein
