The following information is from the plaque displayed with the vehicle. The Type 69 is largely a copy of the Soviet T-62 and copied by the Chinese after their forces captured a T-62 in a border skirmish in 1969. Later models like this example have a rifled gun and improved electronics. A way of identifying a Type 69 from a Russian T-62 is to check the headlights. If there are a pair mounted on the left side of the hull it is a T-62. If it has a pair over each mudguard it is a Type-69. This tank was captured in Iraq in 1991, brought back to the UK by the Queens Dragoon Guards and is displayed on a BR90 bridge section.
