To be offered as limited edition kits, Fine Molds is set to re-release selected IJA armor that will come with new components.
Released several years back, the following have been given new kit item numbers:

  • FM 35270 IJA Tank Destroyer Type 3 Ho-Ni III
  • FM 35721 IJA Type 97 Shinhoto Chi-Ha
  • FM 35725 IJA Type 97 Chi-Ha
The belt-type tracks are replaced by link-and-length plastic tracks that have been molded with a sagged effect. Additional parts to reproduce interior details such as levers, and transmission will be included. Furthermore a radio, two Type 97 machine guns, clear parts, and a photo-etch exhaust cover complete the kit offering.

Fine Molds will produce 500 kits of each tank. Target release date: April 2017.

I really like Fine Molds kits. They are well engineered kits. Their quality is on par with Tamiya kits. I'm not too fond of the "rubber band" tracks but these kits look like they come with link and length tracks. That's a bonus. The price of these kits has come down tremendously over the last few years. If you order from Asian suppliers the cost is very affordable. Fine Molds has a fantastic line up of IJA armor kits. Pit Road is another producer of IJA armor and artillery, also very affordable.

I hope they re-release their Naval Landing Force Type 95. The original boxing is long sold out.

They are releasing updated versions of their Type 95s aswell, with link and length tracks + some revised details.

"Fine Molds will produce 500 kits of each tank." Only 500 kits? That can't be right... If that is the case, chances of getting one would be pretty slim.

Only 500 means that they gonna be very expensive.

I hope they release the interior as a separate offering. Not gonna buy another kit just to get it.

Why not release their excellant type 89 with actually historical marking options?

The list price in yen is only about $5 USD more then the original kit(s). Limited edition doesn't necessarily translate to expensive. In this case, FM has probably decided to only make 1500 of each new sprue (1 for tracks, 1 for interior, since all the new parts for each kit are on these two sprues). Since the original kits are not changing, they are just charging for the new parts essentially.

If you are referring to the latest release of the FM Type 95 Nomonhan that came out last Decemeber, this is not an updated version. If is in fact an entirely new kit. I have all the original Type 95 kits and compared it - there is nothing in the new kit from the old kit(s).
