Long Awaited Sherman Firefly

Model Centrum is releasing another of their very sort after books this time covering the Sherman Firefly with the release due on or about the 24th January 2020.

By the final stages of W.W. II the American Sherman had become the mainstay of British and Commonwealth armies. However German tanks had increased their armour thickness which meant its original 75 mm gun was no longer adequate. To counter this, the 17-pdr anti-tank gun was fitted to many tanks, providing them with enough firepower to defeat the Tigers and Panthers.

This book covers the Firefly’s development, production and service in British, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Czechoslovak and Polish armies. It includes 148 period black and white photos, extracts from original documents, 1/35th scale plans and colour plates.

Peter Brown, author of this volume, has researched British AFVs for over 40 years, written two other books for Model Centrum Progress and contributed many articles to professional and modelling magazines.

Thanks Darren for the info . Peter Brown's previous books on British Cruiser (A9, A10, A13...) for Model Centrum were of great value and interest. So his Firefly book definitely worth a look. But from a pictorial point of view, all the images posted in this review were already published by the same editor in its Armor PhotoGallery 13 (Sherman VC Firefly) and Armor PhotoGallery 21 (Sherman IC Firefly). Also, Mark Hayward's beautiful Firefly monography (Barbarossa - 2001) and/or Fletcher smaller but well informed attempt (Vanguard 141 - 2008) have both told a lot about the Firefly development and operational career. I am never fed up on material on the Firefly but I wish this book brings enough fresh informations, something this review may need to assert more strongly ... if possible ? I know you are already dealing with a huge volume of work. Thanks
