Jeep Riders

by: Rob Lively [ HUSKY1943 ]

Parts and Pieces
The two seated riflemen come in a sturdy plastic box, then bagged in a plastic bag. Each resin figure comes with a solid torso and legs (one with his right arm molded on) with the arms and heads molded separately. Both men wear steel pot helmets with no netting, and the heads and helmets are molded together.

The figures
Both men are riflemen, wearing ‘M1941’ Parsons Field Jackets with OD wool trousers. One man wears leggings, while the other wears the M1943 combat service boots (leather-topped “buckle” boots). One GI wears a web belt with rifle pouches and the other a bandolier. One man’s arms rest on his knees while the other has his left arm up perpendicular to his body, (as illustrated, his arm sits on the erected windshield of a jeep.) Both men are relaxed and very life-like. These two ‘doggies’ could be seasoned veterans or replacements being fed through the "Green Machine.”

Pros and Cons
The pros are obvious. These two sitting men are relaxed, but could be ready for action in a minute. They could be sitting on a jeep, in a truck or in a foxhole. Although the one man with buckle boots would limit these figures to very late ’43 and beyond, the man in leggings could be placed at anytime as an infantryman. At first glance, it appears that Anders mistakenly made one legging longer than the other. Actually, one pant leg has simply ridden up and over the legging, which happened all the time (It happened to me all the time when I wore them in bootcamp so many years ago). What an interesting and human touch.

The cons are there are no rifles with the men and the pour stubs on the arms and helmet tops are somewhat thick and require great care to clean up without marring the beautiful detail. Two things that you might have noticed: First, unfortunately at least in my sample, both men have major nose damage. Bubbles formed where their noses should have been, and repairs would be difficult, though not impossible. A head replacement for both will be necessary in my case. Second, Rider 2 is missing his left thumb (I see a large bandage for this soldier).

Other than that, it’s mostly positive!!

Overall
Seriously, Anders and Warriors did a really great job. It’s a welcome subject with so many possibilities. Recommended.

SUMMARY
Two (2) resin figures, seated, with beautiful sculpting and delicate, natural detail. Although this figure set is titled “Jeep Riders,” these two resin figures could be used for any of a number of dios or vignettes that require seated riflemen, ranging from late ’43 on (even Korea).
