Introduction:

Live Resin recently released a number of different 1/35 scale head sets wearing Russian-made gasmasks. One of these releases is: PMG-2 Russian Military Gasmask with EO-16 filter, long tube and OZK hood (LRE-35271).

Review:

The PMG-2 Russian Gasmask set comes packed in a zip-lock bag, secured between hard cardboard backing. The CAD box art on the front shows the contents of the set, while the one on the back displays the gasmask from several additional angles.

The set consists of 6 identical heads, as well as 6 long tubes and filters, all cast in grey resin. As we came to expect from Live Resin, the cast is perfect and the pieces feature sharp details very nicely delivered in scale.

The heads are wearing PMG-2 mask and OZK hood. The Soviet PMG-2 was adopted in 1971 and still sees limited use in the Russian army. The model features circular eye lenses, a simple inlet valve and exhale valve, and a rubber facepiece. A voice diaphragm is located just under the eye lenses. Guys from Live Resin did an amazing job on the gasmask, with its characteristic shape nicely delivered and all the features easily recognizable. The masks in this set is equipped with long hoses and filters supplied as separate pieces. These filters were usually carried in bags strapped around the wearer's shoulder and the 1/35 scale bags are available separately from Live Resin as Side Bags for Gasmasks with EO-18K - EO-62K - EO-16 Filter set (LRE-35273). The OZK hood covers the entire head with the elastic band ensuring a tight fit over the gasmask. The hood extends downward to the neck area, with the fastener clearly visible under the neckline. The hood captures the baggy feel of heavy rubberized NBC suit well.

Fitting these heads to the figure might present a problem. The heads include a shoulder portion of the OZK suit, which suggests that the figure receiving the head should have a full NBC suit on. I'm not aware of any 1/35 scale figures sporting the OZK, so I think sculpting the suit might be the only option. However, Live Resin produces a variety of head sets with different Soviet gasmasks, so I'm pretty sure those modeling Cold War NBC / Stalker projects can find the set which best suits their needs.

Conclusion:

This set provides six 1/35 scale resin replacement heads with PMG-2 gasmasks and OZK hood. The resin looks good with plenty of sharp details nicely delivered. As for fitting these heads to the figure, I would say quite a bit of sculpting/resculpting is required as I know of no 1/35 scale figures with OZK suit on the market.
SUMMARY
Highs: Nicely sculpted and perfectly cast, featuring loads of wonderfully delivered details.
Lows: Fitting the heads to the appropriate figure might be a problem.
Verdict: Highly recommended.

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...
