Introduction:

The Carl Gustaf is an 84 mm man-portable reusable anti-tank recoilless rifle produced by Saab Bofors Dynamics (formerly Bofors Anti-Armour AB) in Sweden. Although most rounds fired by the Carl Gustaf work on the classic recoilless principle, modern rounds sometimes add a post-firing booster that technically make it a rocket launcher.

Carl Gustaf ammunition options include multiple versions of high-explosive anti-tank rounds, a high-explosive dual-purpose round, an anti-structure munition, a multi-target tandem charge round, an area-defense munition (for close-in protection), a high-explosive (airburst or impact) round and both smoke and illumination rounds. These options provide users with significant tactical flexibility.

Review:

Live Resin recently released Carl Gustaf M3 Multi-role Anti-armor Anti-tank Weapon System (MAAWS) (LRE-35326) and Carl Gustaf ammo and ammo boxes (LRE-35327), both in 1/35 scale. This review covers the latter, while the reviews of other Live Resin sets published on Armorama can be accessed here: link.

The set is packed in a zip-lock bag safely secured between hard cardboard backings. The CAD box art images show the contents of the set.

The kit consists of two identical resin carrier sprues with 5 pieces each. The pieces depict:

- ammo round,
- closed container,
- open container,
- open container with round,
- container cap.

The quality of Live Resin kits is always very high and this set is no exception to the rule. I found no imperfections in the cast and the grey resin features a ton of details impressively defined in scale.

Carl Gustaf recently found a new life as a bunker-buster system using the 84mm ASM 509 (Anti-Structure Munition), designed specifically for destroying buildings and other types of urban constructions. This set delivers ASM 509 round and its container in 1/35 scale. The research I’ve done indicates the ASM round is correctly shaped, but I haven’t been able to find the dimensions of the round, so I can’t comment on the accuracy in size. The special plastic container is nicely depicted and offered in three slightly different variants. I do like the variety, however I’d prefer the set included additional closed containers as I feel these are the most useful part of the set.

Conclusion:

US Special Forces have been using Carl Gustaf from the 1990s. The weapon has proven its worth in Afghanistan as it is versatile, cheap, easy to handle and packs a powerful punch even at long range. Thus, many photos from Afghanistan show the weapon and a lot of 84mm ammo containers stowed of SF vehicles.

Carl Gustaf ammo and ammo boxes (LRE-35327) from Live Resin is a very nice set, offering 10 pieces of Carl Gustaf ammo and ammo containers in 1/35 scale. The set is perfectly cast in resin with the details impressively delivered. If you are interested in modeling SF vehicles, both Carl Gustaf M3 Multi-role Anti-armor Anti-tank Weapon System (MAAWS) (LRE-35326) and Carl Gustaf ammo and ammo boxes (LRE-35327) are a must.

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...

Thank you Mario. I wish there were stencil decals with the kit for the containers and ammo rounds.

Good call, I must admit I didn't think of that... Live Resin never supplied decals with any of their releases so far. Mario
