Introduction:

A long time ago I saw a small 1/35 scale vignette from Diego Cuenca showing a Russian soldier sitting in a library with huge shelves full of books all around. The scene was something completely different from what we usually see in military dioramas and, being a booklover myself, the message the vignette conveyed was very dear to me.

As I realized the books featured in the vignette were available as an aftermarket set produced by MacOne Models, I immediately knew these books would find their place in my own dioramas very soon.

Review:

Books (MAC35108) is packed in a plastic blister box featuring an image which displays contents of the set. Opening the box reveals pieces delivered in grey resin. The cast is really good. I did find two book corners slightly damaged, probably a result of the transport process. These could be repaired using some putty. The pieces feature sharp details, presenting the books in a very realistic way.

The set includes 19 pieces. 12 books are delivered as individual pieces, some open and some closed. There are no duplicates with all the books slightly different from one another. The front covers and opened pages could be brought to life using some paint and custom printed decals. The rest of the pieces depict rows of books of different lengths, ranging from 1-3.5 cm. Again, there is no duplication within these pieces which could populate the 1/35 scale shelf really well. All the books in the set are hardcover books, some with raised bands on spine cover. Text blocks are delivered really well, showing nice details too.

Conclusion:

Books (MAC35108) from MacOne Models delivers books of different shapes and sizes in 1/35 scale. The set consists of individual books (open and closed) as well as of books in rows cast together as a single unit. The resin is molded very nicely, with only minor irregularities to deal with. The books are nicely defined and should look great painted up.

I’m sure a lot of modelers would find this set useful, as the books can find their place in all sorts of 1/35 scale dioramas, both civilian and military.

About Mario Matijasic (Maki)
FROM: CROATIA HRVATSKA

You wonder how did this addiction start? I was a kid when my dad broght home a 1/72 Concord airplane; we built it together as well as couple of other airplanes after that. This phase was just pure fun: glue, paint, decals in no particular order... everything was finished in a day or two. Then I disc...
