Introduction

Djiti Production has released some new resin figures in 1/35th scale covering three of the major powers of World War 2. The one covered in this review is a Soviet Sniper which is a good choice by Djiti due to the appeal to modellers of sniper figures.

Review

The figure is provided packed inside a clear plastic blister pack with a hanging tab present. This is a nice approach for anyone who wants to keep their purchases safe when not being utilised straight away. If further protected by a cardboard box the item should survive postage well in most cases. Inside is a paper insert showing the figure included and the product information. The parts that make up the resin figure are packed inside a Ziploc plastic bag with all of the parts arriving as intended.

This offering from Djiti Product features a Soviet sniper from World War 2, the figure is stood erect with a stance that shouts at me ‘propaganda photograph’. The clothing worn is a Telogreika jacket as used in winter warfare, Djiti have correctly shown just the one pocket on the jacket. The buttoning area of the jacket has been particularly well replicated on the figure. Details such as this will really shine during the painting if care is taken.

The trousers are the standard issue with the inverted triangle around the knee area. The crease detail in this area is very good and will result in a pleasing colour variation area if painted carefully. The boots are very well done as regards the crease detail and general look. The sole of the boot does have an instep area present, the only negative I can see is that the area where the high leg portion meets the foot portion of the boot does not appear to have the joint seam present.

The equipment replicated is limited to some ammunition pouches around the waist which do appear to me to be correct and a water flask, the detail on the flask cover is very nice and one of the best replications I have seen so far. The rifle is a Mosin M1891/30 with the correct sight added to be used as a sniper rifle. A point of interest with this set up is that the ammunition could not be loaded as usual in the form of the stripper clips due to the sights location and so loose rounds had to be added via the rifles action with the bolt in the cocking position.

The hands of this figure have been moulded as an integral part of the rifle and this does result in well placed hands that locate very well with the wrist area of the arms, I have held them in situ with a little Blu tak to provide the photographs. The finger detail is good and should look good once the figure is finished and painted. The head is a little different in look and looks a little to like Ron Perlman from ‘Enemy at the Gates’, regardless I am sure the figure painters amongst us can make good use of this head.

Conclusion

I rather like this figure as it is a great offering to be used in a vignette , but its use is limited due to the Propaganda like pose to vignette type settings, that set it does not detract from the qualities of the offering. I can only see two down sides in the offering in that the hands being moulded as part of the rifle makes it hard to change the weapon if so desired, I should say that is more of an observation rather than a down side. The detail on the boots at the joint between high leg and foot looks to be missing. Djiti Production has come a long way since I started looking at their figures some years ago. There use to be questionable proportions to areas of the figures in particular the legs and feet. Move forward to the present and most aspects of what they offer is very good with the face detail being the last area they need to do more work on.
SUMMARY
Highs: Exceptionally good detail on the Telogreika jacket that offers an excellent chance for adding the colour variations that make figures look so realistic.
Lows: The joint between the high leg and foot portions of the boots is the only real negative I can find.
Verdict: A very nice figure that can be had for a good price, but limited uses due to the stance provided.
