German BR52 Crew

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

introduction
The Trumpeter BR52 Locomotive has now been out for some time, and I'll bet that most people who bought them are still sitting on them, wondering what to do with them. How about this relaxed pair from Warriors?

the figures
What you get in this set are two figures, one posed seated, the other standing. The seated figure has his left arm bent at the elbow and appears to be leaning on something. You don't get anything for him to sit on, and you have to supply something of the correct height for him to be leaning on as well.
The figure standing appears to be shouting and has his left arm cupped at his mouth. Both figures are dressed in fatigues, the one sitting has an officers cap, the standing one has a field cap. Both figures were sculpted by Bill Chilstrom.
Both figures are supplied with separate heads, and arms, the legs being moulded to the torso's in both cases. The pouring blocks attached to each piece are reasonably easy to remove, leaving a little sanding to do afterwards.
The fit of the heads was really positive, after removal of the poring block they slipped into place with the correct orientation, leaving absolutely no gap whatsoever. the arms however, were a different case. There is a small locating pin moulded onto the stub of each arm, but when removing the pouring block it's very difficult indeed to see what's the pin and what is the overpour, consequently it's easiest to remove the lot, leaving no pin and a less than positive fit. Some filler will be called for.
There was very little flash present on both figures, but the right leg of the standing figure was a little disappointing, since the mould halves seemed to be offset slightly, leaving quite a bad seam the entire length of the leg that needed removing.

in conclusion
A nice set of figures at a reasonable price again from Warriors. Whatever you're going to do with your BR52, it will need a crew, and this pair will look great sitting in the tender, with one shouting down to the track. Recommended.

My thanks to the VLS Corporation for the review sample.
