Self-Adhesive PE for M113

by: Vinnie Branigan [ TEACHER ]

introduction
The introduction of these small 'Zoom' sets fro Eduard I hope has been a great success for them, giving the modeller as it does the choice of installing a small, cheap upgrade to only those areas that will have the greatest visual impact on a finished model. It's also meant that Eduard can go back and revisit earlier kit releases such as the Tamiya M113.

the set
There is only one small PE fret in this set, but that is reflected in the very reasonable price. Included, is the fret itself of course, and a one-sided instruction sheet. The fret is held on a small piece of greaseproof paper, with the areas that have adhesive on being marked in yellow on the parts map at the top of the instruction sheet.

What you get are two engine grills, both of which can be simply pressed into place, but also a holding bracket and strap for the spade above the rear door, should your vehicle require it, and also episcope housings for replacing the kit moulded on ones. Both grills are etched in a 3-D pattern and look quite good.

conclusion
There you have it! A dead simple set, for a cheap price that will offer improvements to your kit if you don't want to go for replacing virtually everything with a full photo etched update set! Recommended.

SUMMARY
Eduard have being producing Zoom sets for a while now, and they range from pre-coloured sets, to simple sets that offer a minimum of upgrades. This one includes two self adhesive grill to upgrade the venerable Tamiya M113, a couple of tool brackets, and episcope housings.

Awesome idea.. Now we, (re:I) wont get CA glue all over my fingers... Only other thing they can do is supply a younger set of eyes to see all the itty bitty parts.. :-) Dave

Hey Vinnie. This self-adhesive idea sounds like a great thing. How do you think the "glue" will hold up? Will it work in the long term or will the parts have to be put back on later due to the adhesive degrading? VERY curious.

To be honest Patrick, it's something I'm trying now.........I have them stuck to a painted surface to test it. I don't have great hopes of it lasting the evening! :-) Vinnie
