Steering set for Staghound
RESICAST Positionable Steering for Italeri Staghound

Introduction
I have to admit to a bit of bias here as I am a keen fan of the Resicast Accessories and Graham has these past 18 months or so been producing some new and very useful items as well as re-tooling some of his older sets to enhance them and make them more detailed and modeller friendly. Packed in two small plastic bags with the instructions in typical RESICAST format, the parts arrived safely in the post in a padded envelope.

The Set
The kit comes on 5 small spurs/plugs. Cast in a light grey resin I could find no air bubbles anywhere on the parts. The parts themselves are well detailed and consist of:
a replacement front axel, two wheel bearings, (that fit neatly onto the ball sockets on the axel), track rod and connecting rods.

Little or no clean up should be needed but care will have to be taken on removing them from the plug, but given the way they are finished and attached to the plug this should be a very easy job.

The instructions are contained on a double sided sheet of A4 with clear photographs of how the parts fit together. The pictures are clear and of the much improved standard that has been evident in their recent releases. A very tiny amount of work is required on the Italeri parts to mate them up with the replacement steering gear. I saw nothing on the sheet that is beyond the capabilities of the average modeller.

The bearings are mounted by means of a ball and socket joint so accurate placement of the wheels to the desired angle should be no problem. The most important point to note is to make sure the connecting pins on the wheel bearings are horizontal. Even for someone like me who has a problem with straight lines this should not be too difficult a task.

Coming in at around 7 euros this is a very useful and user friendly set that will add a lot of character to the kit either on a single static display of as part of a larger dio.

Conclusion
Although not by any means essential, this set offers a hassle free way to give your kit that additional character that modellers often seek. At the price it’s affordable to most, and I would recommend it if you looking for that something extra in your build. This set is specific to the Italeri kit but I believe a further set specific to the Bronco kit is not far away.
SUMMARY
Highs: Affordable and will give your build that something extra. A small kit that beginners might like to try.
Lows: None I could think of.
Verdict: A very useful set for the Italeri Staghound builder.

Greying slightly, but young at heart. I've been teaching adults off and on for most of my life. Left the services in 85 and first started modelling in about 87 for a few years. Then I had a long spell when I didn't build anything (too busy) and really just got started again during the summer of ...

Nice review Alan. I have the 2.5 ton truck and jeeps sets, and although I haven't used them yet, I have to say they are extremely well cast, and in my personal opinion, really will enhance the kits they are meant for and make it a snap to turn the wheels.

Hi Dave, Many thanks, haven't done one of these in a while. It's a good addition to the AM kits available for the Staghound. Al
