WWII Soviet 100mm Ammo Boxes

by: Martyn Crowther [ MARTYNCROWTHER ]

Introduction

During the Second World War tanks needed to be re-supplied for combat. This was done by the logistics of the Army and then the tank crews would load them into the tank, ready for the next mission. Ammo rounds would be stored in wooden boxes to protect the rounds from being damaged. Also it was easy to store and transport the wooden boxes rather than loose single rounds.

The Set

This set from Wee Bits, Soviet 100mm Wooden Ammo Boxes, contains five wooden ammo boxes cast in resin.

Packaging:
The 100mm wooden boxes are packaged in a small paper package wrapped in clear plastic to keep the boxes together. There is no box art to let you see the product up close with out opening the package.

Product:
There are five Soviet 100mm wooden ammo boxes in the set, cast in a light cream resin and there are no cast blocks. At first I failed to notice any wood grain effect but after looking closely it is there. The wood grain is not thick which is nice because, looking at real boxes wood grain is not thick. Moving on to the details, the ammo boxes have nicely moulded hinges which should come up nicely with proper painting.

conclusion

Accessories are very important when completing a diorama or vignette. These include many military items such as jerry cans, tank ammo and wooden ammo cases. Many people overlook such accessories which can help to fill dead spaces for dioramas or add interest. Highly recommended.
SUMMARY
Highs: Great set of 100mm ammo boxes.
Lows: Hard to notice the wood effect.
Verdict: A great little set from Wee Bits, highly recommended.

I got into modelling, with Revell planes. Then I started on 1/72 but found that I enjoy 1/35 the most.
